The Poetic Groove
One Year Anniversary Show
28th May @ 10pm
King Kong Klub, Brunnen Str 73, Berlin
On the night, some of Berlin’s best poets will be joined on stage by a host of musicians to bring you a poetry show unlike anything you have ever seen before.
Joining Robert Grant and Lady Gaby on the night are…
Beranger Gras has cut his Berlin musical teeth on the open mic circuit and will be making his big Debut at the show. This singer/song writer is a talented pianist and will be bringing his unique style to life on the night. One to watch!
The Petty thefts are a band based in Berlin, Germany, cantered around the song writing of Frank Wegling from Cleveland, Ohio and Andrew McGinn from England. Their well-received first full-length album, ‘Smoke and Mirrors,’ was recorded at Faust Studios in southern Germany and was released on the Klangbad label in 2009. The band has recently finished their second album, entitled ‘Velvet Gold,’ which will be available in spring, 2012.
Laura Bean and the Vagabonds. Miss Laura Bean settled in Berlin to play her music to the good folk in cafes, bars, and restaurants, which she has done faithfully and dutifully for the past 3 years. She hosts the fabulously quirky old-time music variety show called the Southern Flavor Show which features Berlin’s very best Rip-Roarin’ Bluegrass, Gypsy Swing, Roots Music, Country n’ more!
Come see the talk on the town
“Gaby’s an artist…a true artist. She’s never scared to experiment with the boundaries of performance poetry, because she fully understands that to explore, you must first have a foundation in traditional poetic technique. Add to that her sexually charged performance power, fashion, culture, history, art, spit kicked bars at 4am on a Tuesday and you’ve got one of Berlin’s very best. She’s a poetic presence that will never be stopped…and never could be!” (quote from Robert Grant at The Berlin poetry awards May 2011)
“Robert Grant’s verses crawl through the trotted and down and out pubs, bars and streets of Berlin. His poetry spells toughness, experience and humour. As a poet you might say he is as beat as Bukowski and one’s sorrows will drown in one’s glass with laughter and tears upon hearing Mr Grant’s work. Robert should be heard either on stage or on the page. His work will loosen you up just as much as a few glasses of wine do, but it will be enjoyed more after a few whiskeys as it hits one’s literary sense. He didn’t just start the poetry night in Berlin, titled BeatStreet, without his work bearing its toughest yet its most romantic moments. His words are recommended and not to be avoided” (quote from Lady Gaby (Gaby Bila-Günther), Berlin Jan 2011)
