The 2012 Erotic Awards Exhibition is being shown at Sh! during June and July. This initiative sets out to honour the stars in the Erotic Universe and raise money for the Outsiders Trust, which is a disability charity promoting and working towards disabled people enjoying sex and love, just like anybody else. Sales of work help towards the funding of this charity.

The show is extremely mixed, ranging from fine art charcoal, illustration, interactive projections, self portrait pussy photos, political fly-on-the-wall documentation, hand-crafted stone dildos and Holly Revell’s DARKROOM Photography Chamber imagery. Finalists include some prominent people such as Alan Bennett, Peter de Rome, whose films have just been released by the BFI, the Girl with a One-Track Mind, Ben Dover, and the popular illustrator Brett Ryder, who created an erotic image specially for us.

All the finalists’ portraits and a short statement about why they were voted for are on display to explain the show. Perhaps the most extraordinary outcome in the judging of the winners, was that Alan Bennett’s book novel Smut was beaten by Becky Adam’s autobiography Madam. The winner of the 2012 Club of the Year was Club Sop, a small non-dress-code piss club for gay men. Water sports is perhaps the one of the most stigmatised of fetishes, and yet this club manages to thrive, despite many set-backs, in London.
