How Do YOU Qype?
A place to discuss the different ways we like to do things, including gathering information before writing reviews. What are the best ways? Do you make notes at the time or just remember the details? Do you tell people in shops (and other places) that you are going to write a review of their business? What about taking photos? Perhaps we can pick up some tips and ideas from each other!

I recently had several messages from the owner of one of the pubs I reviewed. I hadn’t had a good experience there and he wanted to assure me that things are usually better than that. He said he will be taking action to ensure there are no problems in future. I modified my review as a result because he was so helpful, although I haven’t been back to the pub yet. I wonder if any of you have been contacted by owners of places you’ve reviewed and, if so, have you altered your review?

No, I haven’t but I wouldn’t alter anything until I had been back, but I would add that I’d been told. Maybe I’m cynical!

I only altered the non-helpful part (because the man who sent the email was trying to be helpful!) and I also took something out I’d written about the coffees because he told me there were different ones available, I just hadn’t been told that by his staff! I agree that it’s best to be a bit cynical on the whole and to revisit the place before altering much (if anything).
