Has anyone ever visited the GBBF? In case you have, do you think it’s worth a day trip from Germany?

I haven’t - but I’ve just looked at the photos and it looks like a great, great event.

All the other beer/cider festivals I’ve been to have always been a day to remember - well maybe the memories were a little hazy - but good fun nevertheless.

I wouldn’t try and fly in and back same day - and make sure the flight back would be in the afternoon after not the morning after!

I practized at the International Berlin Beer Festival last year. After sampling gourmet beer all afternoon, I was still able to ride my rental bike to the restaurant of my choice (Joe Peña’s) ... and remember enough to qype about everything! ;-)

The Beer Festival is great fun. Have been there for the last two years. Not worth a day trip in itself but I dare say there are 1 or 2 other things to do in London.

The food isn’t as good value as the ale in my opinion but you get to meet some real characters, try some perfect pork scratchings, and sample some truly weird and wonderful beer.

I thoroughly recommend Cairngorm, Caledonian, and pretty much anything from Sharp’s Brewery, the Otter Brewery, or Hall & Woodhouse.

I went a couple of years ago, and it was a very good day. Agree with Puzzler that the food isn’t great, but the variety of ales and ciders is immense.

GBBF is a cracking event - my fave of the year. It’s huge, and you can basically try, well, a lot of beer. Don’t even try and remember what you had though…

...although, I highly recommend trying something from Hanby Ales - reviewed on Qype here:

I went in 2004 and thought it was great. Always wanted to go back. Well worth the trip. Ales and food are good:)

I’ve been to the GBBF on Wednesday - and had a great time! Hope to be able to attend next year’s festival as well, hopefully a little longer than just half a day.

This year’s was good fun again.

I think I’ve ingested an entire month’s worth of salt with a bag of pork scratchings though.
