Movie Buffs

We watch too many films and say stuff about them. We're particularly interested in amazingly weird and awful films. Maybe even organise a bad movie night where we'll all watch the same bad movie and make disparaging Mystery Science Theatre chit-chat about it on-line. That would be really geeky.

another favourite for me, is Miss Congeniality. it doesn’t just pay off in gutt laughs from the slap-stick. it’s also a chuckle and discomfort movie. Michael Caine provides a tour de force as the beauty queen tutor.

Sorry, but “Harlem Nights” was AWFUL. What’s worse was that I had to watch it in an LA cinema where I was probably the only white Englishman in the place. Eddie Murphy said “M**f**” so often that he began to sound like a Black & Decker hedgetrimmer, and Ella James (I think it was??)only seemed to have one line, or innumerable variations on a theme of “Well kiss my whole entire ass!”. If we’re going with the Eddie Murphy theme, he’s done LOTS of good stuff, but this was the kind of indulgence that similarly KO’d Kevin Costner’s movie career. Interesting fact: Did you know that the part of the Marine Biologist (the girl) in Star Trek IV was offered to Murphy? As Nimoy put it: “This is either the best idea I have ever heard… or the worst!”

This isn’t an obvious choice up against modern films, but I think that Alistair Simm in

“Kind Hearts and Coronets” is brilliantly funny as a concept, all the way through.

This is probably not my all-time favorite comedy, but "The Hangover" had me laughing from beginning to end. Funniest film of 2009, in my opinion.
