Eye Treats brow & beauty express bar - West Kensington

Unit 13A West 12 Shopping Centre, London W12 8PP

21.12.2011

This is the prefect place for a quick brow tidy. It is the size of a broom cupboard, in the scruffier, more desolated end of West 12 Shopping centre (if a scruffier end is possible), and if there are more than two people in the place it’s crowded, but dont let that fool you. This place does the best brow threading, I’ve never had such a perfect line than here. Testament to this is the constant stream of customers, I alway shave to wait for a couple of customers before me but this is never long, each person take around five minutes if that. £7 is the cost for threading, and they run a loyalty card scheme so every 7th is free!

DS Dental Studio - Shepherds Bush

Unit 201a Westfield Shopping Centre, Ariel Way, London W12 7GA

I was faced with a conundrum – one of my top teeth appeared to be coming loose and I was in a lot of pain. I went to my NHS dentist who’s only solution was to take it out and get me a plate. I was pretty devastated at this. Apparently it was still a baby tooth! (I’m in my 30’s). I went to DS Dental hoping they could come up with a new solution and they did. It was experimental and my dentist said he hadnt tried it before so was quite excited (dentists eh?) but he gave me a filling in a baby tooth. I went back a couple of times for him to work on it and it has been great – no pain and has extended the lifetime of my tooth for around 4-5 years so that I will have time to save hopefully for a brace to move the teeth across. So DS Dental – not afraid to try something new to help you, and their rates for a private practice are great, quite close to NHS prices anyway, and the care and passion (for teeth?!) was evident.

YHA London Central - Fitzrovia

I must tell you how fab I think this place is. I live in London, but my friends were coming down to visit for the weekend. There were six of them originally so they booked a 6 bed dorm room to themselves. One of our friends dropped out, so I stayed with them rather than braving the night bus home after a night out clubbing!
When we checked in we were impressed by the cleanliness and how modern the place was. My friends were a little worried that they would be the oldest in the place with it being a youth hostel (we are all in our early 30’s) but a look around the inviting reception area which also doubled as the cafe/bar and wifi lounge made us feel much better – there were clientele of all ages – yes of course the young ones as this is obviously who it is geared for, but also families with young children, older travellers and I even saw a couple of hippy looking pensioners consulting their guidebooks. There was a welcoming atmosphere regardless of your age.
This hostel is so central, just a short walk from Oxford Street it is perfect for all London trips. The dorm was very clean with 3 bunkbeds, with a seperate toilet with sink, and a seperate wet room. My only gripe would be when all 6 of us were getting ready the wet room leaked from under the door across the dorm a little! But it was no major catastrophe. When we got in from clubbing around 5am the bar was still open and served us drinks and panninis!
Would definately reccommend this hostel to all.

The Vine Leaves Taverna - Shepherds Bush

71 Uxbridge Road, Shepherds Bush, London W12 8NR

We were stuck for ideas on what we wanted to eat for dinner, so we headed out into the rain to find somewhere local and came across this place that I had walked past so often. I’d been intrigued by the plants in the window and the cosy look of it so was glad to give it a go.
On entering, it’s a little underwhelming as it turns into more of a cafe and less cosy than expected by the window display, however we were seated and served quickly. We both went for the ‘mini meze’ – £11.95 each. The dishes came out quickly – around 18 in total – of traditional greek dips, cold dishes and hot dishes such as little spicy parcles, greek sausage, meatballs and chicken wings. We loved the hot pittas to go with it which were replenished when asked. For nostalgia lovers, they serve Skol lager in here (remember, from the 80’s??!) .
We left full and satisfied. I wouldnt say the food is out of this world, but it was very nice, great value and gave us an opportunity to try lots of different dishes when we weren’t overly familiar with greek food.

Youth Hostel Association - Fitzrovia

104-108 Bolsover Street, Marylebone, London W1W 5QQ

This is a fantastic place for all ages to stay. I live in London, but had friends down for a night of clubbing in London. They managed to get a 6 bed dorm for only around £30 each, and as someone had dropped out I stayed with them rather than braving the nightbus home. Amazingly clean, there was a pleasant atmosphere about the place. When we checked in there were young backpackers lounging around, a young family here for sightseeing and a few adventurous looking pensioners – whatever age you are you will not feel out of place here even though it is a youth hostel. The reception staff were friendly and accepting that we were likely to come back hammered (I image being a youth hostel they are pretty used to it) but when we did so, there was a quiet serene atmosphere and no youngsters shrieking or getting messy etc.
There is a 24 hour bar, perfect when you get in from a nights clubbing but arent quite ready for bed, and they serve food too.
The dorm was clean with all the amenities. The only gripe was the shower room was a wet room, and the floor was pitched so that after 6 showers the water started leaking under the door into the room! But that was a minor gripe when you consider the cleanliness, the value for money, and the amazing location just a short walk from Oxforxd Street and next door to Radio 1 (for those celeb spotters)

Pacha UK - Victoria

191 Victoria Street, London SW1E 5NE

30.11.2011

Ah Pacha, that bastion of Ibiza and worldwide cosmopolitan clubbing. Ok, so London Pacha might seem like the poorer cousin but I have had some outstanding nights here.
I once came here many moons ago with my then boyfriend (now husband). The music was good but it was basically us and 3 other people IN THE ENTIRE CLUB. It was a bit like going to a party no one else has turned up to.
So when my friends suggested we go as Hed Kandi was on, I was dubious. However we had an amazing night, packed full of happy people up for a good time and excellent music, particularly in the small room upstairs.
We went again for Plush da Funk and had another top nigh. Again, cant fault the small room.
So I would say definately go as it is a great club as long as you get the right night/promoter.

Foundation Bar - Covent Garden

5 Langley Street, London WC2H 9JA

30.11.2011

Lovely little bar just off covent garden. I was used to the old stalwart The Langley for cheap cocktails and soul-less decor, but the new Foundation exceeded my expectations.
Headed here late on a Saturday afternoon early evening as a retreat from the covent garden crowds and decended down into the cosy, funky bar. Cocktails are still cheap with Happy Hour at half price.
It was a fab little place where my friends and I spent a few good hours sampling the cocktails and catching up on gossip. I did have a quick nose round to see how it had changed since the Langleyand I would love to go back for a night out soon as already the tunes were good in the afternoon. I noticed from their website they are getting big name DJ’s there every now and then so worth checking it out in advance on the website. Would reccomend for after work drinks, or even a Saturday eve.

Grafton on Sunset - West Hollywood

Sunset Boulevard 8462, West Hollywood (California), , CA 90069 West Hollywood

23.09.2011

Great hotel in a fab location, right on sunset boulevard close to House of Blues. The hotel is decorated in a contemporary way, and everything is clean. We were jetlagged when we got here, and I haev to say the beds are the comfiest I have ever slept in with goose feather bedding. In fact, when I got home from this holiday I went straight out and bought goose feather bedding as I couldn’t go back to bad pillows! The pool area is lovely, really clean and FREE coffee in the mornings (which was proper coffee not bad stuff) and cold water available at all times of the day.
Rooms were great and the price of the hotel was good for the quality and the location of it. Would definately return and recommend.

Algarb - Ibiza

Av Pedro Matutes Noguera - Ibiza-Playa d'en Bossa, 07800 Ibiza

22.09.2011

OK this place may be a little rough around the edges, it could do with some paint and some of the sunbeds are a little saggy, but on the whole this is a great hotel for the price you pay. Fab views from the room we had (pool facing with amazing views of the beach and sea!). We went all inclusive, not something I would normally do as I did it once before elsewhere and was so sick, but the food here was great (I’m not talking Michelin star but great for a 3 star…), lots of choice and freshly cooked options. This is a great budget hotel close to all the clubs and bars of Playa d’en Bossa. The bus stop outside takes you straight to Ibiza town, and there is direct access to the beach from the hotel pool deck.

Hotel Garbi - Playa d'en Bossa

Murtra 5, 07830 Playa d'en Bossa

22.09.2011

We spent 3 nights here for our wedding anniversary and had a great time. The pool was excellent with good sunbeds, a jacuzzi and direct access to the beach, perfect for stumbling back from Bora Bora! The spa was a nice touch, although it was usually empty we used it several times and it was great with plunge pools, steam room, sauna etc. The one thing we noticed most about this hotel was how much they CLEAN here! The place was spotless and staff constantly cleaning at all hours of the day, it became our running joke by the end of the stay. The only downside to this hotel would be the breakfast, but as it’s Ibiza I doubt breakfast is the thing most people come for…
