Martlets Hospice - Hove

Wayfield Avenue, Hove BN3 7LW

16.06.2012

The Martlet's hospice l is famous in Sussex as a worldclass end of life hospice. It's astonishing that they only get 29% of their funding from the NHS. My uncle passed away here and the care and love he received was stunningly good right until the end. The place is warm and peaceful and I am proud to support their charitable work as best I can.

Sri India - Brighton

1-2 Wilmington Parade, Brighton BN1 8JJ

18.05.2012

Very popular indian takeaway and eat-in restaurant up in Hollingbury that is clearly a favourite with families. It's great if you don't want to ride into town and live up here in Hollingbury because it's as good as anything in the city centre and very reasonably priced. I recommend experimenting with the changing house specials. I've eaten here many times and never been disappointed. Try the mango lassi!

Trafalgar News - Brighton

95 Trafalgar Street, Brighton BN1 4ER

18.05.2012

A very useful newsagent and booze shop that's right in the North Laine and handily just down from the station so it's a gret stop of point to pick up supplies. Importantly, it's much cheaper than the Smiths or Budgens at the top of the street nearer the station. They also do utility top ups and have a cash machine (which does charge though).

Woodies - Brighton

20-21 Duke Street, Brighton BN1 1AH

18.05.2012

Woodies is in the heart of the Brighton Lanes on Duke Street and is a must stop for guys who want to get some seriously smart and quality clothes. They specialise in Italian fashion and that means beautifully cut jackets, high end shirts, great shoes and wonderful, luxury acessories. Of course, such things don't come cheap but the service and quality at Woddies speaks for itself. You get what you pay for!

Europcar UK - Brighton

Cannon Place, Kar Champion, Brighton BN1 2FB

18.05.2012

I find Europcar the most convenient place in the city to rent a car. Basically, because of its location right in the middle of town, metres from Chrurchill Square, you can easily get and there and back by bus when you drop off and collect your vehicle. They rent out cars and vans and I have never had an issue when dealing with Eurpocar.

Above the Hobgoblin Venue - Brighton

31 York Street, Brighton BN1 4GU

18.05.2012

The Hobgoblin is a pub on London Road near the Level that is popular with rocker types and the live music scene. Needless to say they do good drinks deals and a fairly comprehensive selection of real ales. Upstairs, they have a great venue that's a popular destination for music lovers and headbangers. I've been here quite a few times, especially during the Great Escape featival and it's a good place to see bands. Don't forget the big beer garden out back that gets packed in summer.

Martlets Hospice Shop - Brighton

2 Church Street, Brighton BN1 1UJ

18.05.2012

Very good little charity shop in the North Laine, just off New Road and a cause very close to my heart. The Martlets Hospice provide great cancer care and need all the help they can get moneywise. This is quite a classy place and I think the Martlets put their best stuff in here.  So it's not the cheapest charity shop but they do have some great stock including retro and vintage clothing.

go.botanica - Hove

Hove Railway Station, Goldstone Villas, Hove BN3 3RU

18.05.2012

Go.botanica, the flower shop right outside Hove railway station, has saved my life on more than one occasion. It's so handy and you can usually find a parking space somewhere nearby. They are lovely girls and they are always very happy to make up a bouquet to your specifications and they do lovely work. Very arty! Don't forget they have another branch, in Brighton station too.

PsychoSocial - Brighton

1-2 Morley Street, Brighton BN2 9RA

18.05.2012

Psychosocial is the latest incarnation of the club and venue that used to be The Ocean Rooms. Tucked away, just off Grand Parade, it's a stroll from the seafront but easily accessible for the North Laine. It's got three floors of dancing and drinking space and a huge variety of events take place here. On Saturday nights it's indie and grime and on some Fridays they have a live band and salsa dancing. So it really is a mixed bag! And, of course, there is another huge benefit of this location. You're a mere stone's throw from that Brighton legend: The Market Street Diner. Open all night, it's a post-clubbing hotspot.

Easy Bar - Brighton

9-10 Cranbourne Street, Brighton BN1 2RD

18.05.2012

This place is very much a pre-club venue for me. A place to meet friends before embarking upon a bar crawl or a night of dancing. You'll find the Easy Bar on the corner of Churchill Square, opposite the Wester Front pub. So it's great if people are coming in from all over town on the bus as it's very central. Cheap and cheerful drinks, funky decor it's a just a good fun bar with good music to get the night going!
