Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa - North Berwick

18 Cromwell Road, North Berwick, Scotland EH39 4LZ

23.02.2010

SECC - Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre - Glasgow

Finnieston Street, Glasgow, Scotland G3 8YW

21.05.2009

I’ve visited the SECC a couple of times recently, most notably to see Britian’s Got Talent’s Glasgow audtions … and most forgetably to see Quidam.

BGT was filmed in the Armadillo. I liked this centre, the seating has a reasonable layout, the building is easy to navigate and the prices for snacks weren’t too inflated either.

Quidam was held in the main SECC centre, and I was highly unimpressed. £50 per ticket to be sitting in an awful location, in a non tiered section (which was massive), unable to see unless I leaned my neck to the right or left all evening … not what I had in mind! The show itself was awful (what I saw of it anyway) so the entire experience was rather unpalpable. The snacks available ranged massively, but all were highly priced and looked distinctly unappatising.

Dominos pizza - Gilmerton

33 Drum Street, Gilmerton, Edinburgh, Scotland EH17 8RQ

21.05.2009

This is a failry new Dominos takeaway outlet. It seems fresh and clean both inide and out and the signage and menus are easily recognised and read.

The standard Dominos menu is avaiable and there are occasional offers valid for this branch only.

Delivery is prompt and the delivery drivers corteous. I’ve always been impressed by the whole delivery experience from this branch. The food has always arrived in perfect condition and the fizzy juice has never arrived flat.

Impressive pizza service!

Black Medicine Coffee Co - Edinburgh

2 Nicolson Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH8 9DH

21.05.2009

I love this little coffee shop! It feels much more personal than your average Starbucks etc, the staff are welcoming and knowledgable … and the coffee is to die for.

Yes it’s popular with students, but only at certain times of the day/week. It’s often nice, relaxing and quiet. It’s a great place to chill out with the laptop for an hour or two whilst sipping some amazing blends.

The shop enjoys a very central position, but I agree with previous Qypers - it can easily be overlooked. It’s definitely worth a visit though, so keep an eye out for this little Gem of a place!

Vue Cinemas - Edinburgh

Leith Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 3AT

21.05.2009

My friend treated me to a Gold Class cinema screening last week. I was really dissapointed, truth be told.

The only differences between the Gold Class and a normal Vue screen seems to be 1) Entry to the Gold Class bar (insert sarcastic wow) and 2) leather faced chairs which are slightly larger than normal, with attached side tables. Oh, and there are less seats in the Gold Class screens.

Apart from that, I don’t know what exactly warrants the extra cost - it was no more 'special’ than a normal night at the cinema. Plus, no-one checked our tickets AT ALL during the evening which I found odd!

I wouldn’t recommend it as a special treat - you’d be just as well sticking to a normal screen, in my humble opinion.

semi-chem - Edinburgh

Lady Road, Camerontoll Shopping Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland EH19 2AD

17.01.2009

This is a new store in Camerontoll Shopping Centre which is always very busy and welcoming.

They have a huge range of items displayed compactly but in an eye catching manner. There’s everything from cosmetics to household cleaners to gifts to snack items. Their products are competitively prices and seem to be value for money.

They share Savacentre with a branch of Boots, a Bodycare and a large Sainsburys yet they seem able to stock items which aren’t to be found (or are more expensive) in those stores. Surprising but welcomed!

The staff are great, very friendly and very efficient. They don’t seem to have an issue when I wander round the store pushing my daughter in a buggy either - which is lovely! Some shop assistants can be a bit 'precious’ when they see buggies!

Bhs - Edinburgh

6 Lady Road, Cameron Toll Shopping Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland EH16 5PB

17.01.2009

I really like this branch of BHS, situated within the Camerontoll Shopping Centre.

The staff are mainly young … and very helpful (not a phrase I find myself using very often!) they are too! They all seem to be friends with each other and happy in their jobs.

The store itself is huge, well laid out and regularly has really good sales.

The range of items stocked is huge and varied, including homewares, womens and mens fashion and childrenswear. I really like the 'flipback’ range for teenage boys and this branch tends to have a wide variety in a good size range.

I enjoy browsing in this shop and always feel welcome to do so with no pressure to always be buying.

Inchpark Surgery - Edinburgh

10 Marmion Cresent, Edinburgh, Scotland EH16 5QU

17.01.2009

Inch park Surgery is a friendly practice with efficient, attentive staff.

Whilst being very busy the staff are aware that each patient is an individual and always try to add a personal touch where appropriate.

The surgery itself is modern, light and spacious. The large open plan waiting room is currently being re-decorated which is timely and will be appreciated.

The practice offers various clinics (such as a stop-smoking clinic and an asthma clinic) and has a cosy annex with 2 health visitors’ rooms, a midwife room, seating area and a toilet / baby changing area.

Festival Theatre - Edinburgh

13-29 Nicolson Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH8 9FT

17.01.2009

This is a nice theater, but the design doesn’t quite fit in the surroundings. In the midst of ancient architecture and shop facades we have this stunning glass fronted, massively tall theater. However, Edinburgh has become used to the sight over the years!

My main issue with the theater is the seating. The seats are uncomfortable and there’s very little leg room (unless you book a specific row).

The theater doesn’t have the old world charm of the Playhouse or the aging splendour of the Kings, but it doesn’t try to ape either. It’s a modern building and doesn’t claim otherwise.

The stage is large and adequate for most perfomances.

The theater also has 'sing-a-long’ nights with films such as The Rocky Horror Show and The Sound of Music. I’ve attended the first and am attending the latter this month! YAY!

I’ve seen many amazing productions in the Festival Theater (like Blood Brothers and Miss Saigon - both fantastic) and will return to see many more.

Lloyds TSB Bank - Edinburgh

16b Cameron Toll Shopping Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland EH16 5PB

17.01.2009

This is a very busy branch of Lloydstsb, located within Camerontoll Shopping Centre. There are two Lloydstsb cash machines located outside the front (Lady Road) entrance of the shopping centre which is handy for out-of-hours service.

The branch itself is of a medium size and offers all the usual services. The counter staff are professional and friendly. All enquires are dealt with politely and with speed.

The loan advisors are great. Very friendly and very 'human’. Your options are made clear but you’re not pressurised into taking on more debt than you’re comfortable with. Repayment plans and so forth are well laid out and well explained. Interest rates are resonable IMHO.

You are offered yearly account reviews to see that the bank is serving you as well as they possibly can and the advisors who deal with this process are lovely.

I’ve never had a negative issue in over 10 years of using this branch.
