Cragside House & Gardens - Morpeth

Rothbury, Morpeth, Northumberland NE65 7PX

27.04.2013

Spent a lovely morning here exploring the grounds and trails. You can buy a ticket to visit the house and gardens or a cheaper ticket to visit just the gardens. It's a tad pricey and there are no concessions for pensioners which is unusual for properties like these. It's a National Trust property which means that members go free. We didn't visit the house because it didn't open until 1pm on the day we visited. We were one of the first visitors on the day we visited which meant I was able to get some great photos without them being full of people. The grounds are extensive and there are lots of trails you can walk, you could easily spend a day here exploring on foot. There is also a six mile trail which you can drive round which has several car parks on its route. This is great for less mobile visitors like my elderly parents who I visited with as it means you can park up and see the more far flung areas of the estate without a long hike. There's a tea room and shop and a very small visitor centre. Great day out, I'd have given it 5 stars but it is a bit on the expensive side as is so often the case with National Trust properties.

Lewis's Fish Restaurant - Seahouses

22 Main Street, Seahouses, Northumberland NE68 7RQ

16.03.2013

We decided to give Lewis's a try during our holiday to Seahouses as a visit to Pinnacles earlier in the week had disappointed us slightly (a shame because the couple of times we'd visited Pinnacles a year ago they were very good). The fish and chips at Lewis's were fine really, the batter was soggy by the time we got them home due to the polystyrene container but the fish was a generous size and juicy too. The chips were fairly standard chippy chips. Portion size was really generous, I couldn't finish it all. Fairly standard fish and chips really, I'd go again but wouldn't especially go out of my way to do so.

Trafford Centre - Manchester

130 Peel Avenue, Manchester, Greater Manchester M17 8AA

Excellent, and very large shopping centre, conveniently placed close to the motorway. It houses a Selfridges and a Debenhams and also just about every High Street shopping brand you can think of! It also has extensive leisure facilities including an Odeon cinema, a bowling alley and more. There is a food mall and various cafes, restaurants and bars including Wokooshi, Chaobaby, Nando's, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, TGI Friday's, Rice Flamebar and Grill etc. etc. I prefer to visit on a weekday when it is less hectic than the weekends although there is heaps of parking available. Great place for a bit of retail therapy!

Apple Store UK - Manchester

The Trafford Centre, Manchester, Greater Manchester M17 8AA

16.01.2013

This is the first time I've ever visited an Apple Store and I was really impressed. All the various products are laid out on tables so you can experience them 'hands on' and there are plenty of staff members to advise you with any queries you may have. We visited on a Wednesday morning in January and the Trafford Centre itself was relatively quiet however the Apple Store was bustling. There were a couple of tables set aside for 'Workshops' which seemed to be tuition sessions for beginners or people just wanting to learn more about their Mac system. They also have a whole bunch of experts helping people with product queries, I think this is called a 'Genius Bar'.  My shopping companion purchased a computer and the process was efficient and professional in every way. I have to confess to being a big Apple fan so I was a bit like a kid in a sweetie shop here but managed to resist temptation on this occasion!

Castle Gardens - Poulton-le-Fylde

Poulton Road, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire FY6 7NH

14.01.2013

Fairly standard chain style pub, an Ember pub if I'm not mistaken. I visited on the occasion of a relative's funeral. The staff were courteous and the the buffet was very pleasant, they had cordoned an area of the pub off for us and we were well treated throughout. The pub is pleasantly decorated and spacious and I noticed various meal deals advertised such as steak nights, two pizzas for £8 on a Monday, two burgers for £10 on a Tuesday etc. They also have quiz nights on twice a week. There were some cask beers on but it was a little early in the day to partake so I can't comment on their quality, I also noticed that there seemed to be a good selection of wine available. I'd certainly pop in if I was passing by in the future, it seems like a pleasant enough pub.

Jacksters Yes, you’re more likely to find me in a pub than a cafe Roger! ;-)

Lloyds Tsb - Thornton-Cleveleys

77 Victoria Road West, Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire FY5 1AW

04.12.2012

Perfectly fine branch of Lloyds TSB which was undergoing refurbishment during my visit. There's a depositpoint facility, which I often like to use as it saves queuing, and also a cashpoint machine inside. Conveniently placed on Victoria Road West and therefore handy for popping into whilst shopping in Cleveleys.

Jacksters I was a bit unsure about using them at first Roger, but I’ve never had any problems. Saves queuing up too! :-)

Jacksters Aah, I’m with you now! I bet Pat would say the same about you though if I asked her ;-)

Card Express - Thornton-Cleveleys

Victoria Road West, Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire FY5 1

04.12.2012

Smashing little card shop with a great range of cards at very reasonable prices. Not quite as cramped as some of the other card shops in Cleveleys so you can browse the cards at your leisure. This was my favourite of the several card shops I visited today and the one I finally found the perfect card in! :-)

W M Morrison Supermarkets - Thornton-Cleveleys

Amounderness Way, Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire FY5 3TS

04.12.2012

Good sized branch of Morrison's on the outskirts of Cleveleys. All the usual foodstuffs including fishmonger, bakery etc. I do have to say that I am not a fan of Morrison's bakery products though. There is a small range of homewares, electricals and stationary items and also a comprehensive alcohol section. The store was very busy when I visited on a Tuesday morning, albeit in that manic shopping month of December, so I should imagine it gets very busy at weekends as the previous reviewer noted. There is also a cafe, pharmacist and dry cleaners in the store and cashpoint machines outside. The staff I had dealings with were notably helpful and friendly, more so than some other supermarkets I shop in. All in all it's a perfectly fine supermarket, as supermarkets go!

The Card Factory - Thornton-Cleveleys

24 Victoria Road West, Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire FY5 1BU

04.12.2012

I visited in early December and the shop was very busy, probably due to the large selection of Christmas cards which were on display. The cards seem reasonably priced, certainly far cheaper than the cards I had just looked at across the road at WH Smiths. They also have various gifts, wrapping paper etc. On this occasion I was looking for a card for my brother's birthday but I found the selection fairly limited and couldn't find one that I liked so I went elsewhere. All in all an OK card shop even though I didn't buy on this occasion.

Morgan's Sandwich Bar - Poulton-le-Fylde

21 Ball Street, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire FY6 7BA

14.08.2012 (aktualisiert am 23.10.2012)

Recently opened little sandwich shop in Poulton-le-fylde. There are many sandwich shops, cafes and bakeries in the small town of Poulton so business here is very competitive and this particular address has been through several hands in recent years and sadly none have lasted very long. So with this in mind I thought I'd give them a whirl. It has a fairly standard menu including sandwiches (barm or baton), salad boxes, breakfast baps, baked potatoes, soup, crisps, cakes and hot and cold drinks. Your sandwich is made fresh to order and all the ingredients are on display and all look very appealing. I had a chicken salad baton which was very pleasant but I did feel they were a bit ungenerous with the salad. *Update* I've been back several times since my initial review and must upgrade my review to 5 stars. The salad boxes in particular are lovely, a really good choice of items from the usual salad staples to pasta, couscous, rice, mixed beans, potato salad, coleslaw etc. etc. In fact if you ask for a bit of everything they are struggling to fit it all in the box! Lovely little shop, recommended.

Jane_Elizabeth Sounds like a lot of choice and especially good that everything is so fresh.
