Friendly pub with great beer, a pool table, sport on the TV (but not overpowering in the volume stakes), friendly staff and an all round good atmosphere. Swift ale was a new one on me but a really pleasant pint and very quaffable. The decor is sort of faded grandeur with lots of plates and ornaments adorning the walls. It's a spacious pub with a bit of character and a refreshing change from the bland chain style pubs which seem to be taking over in so many places.

The Craster Arms is situated in the lovely village of Beadnell. It is a typical modern pub in terms of decor, you could be in any one of hundreds like it really. We tried the cask beers, I had Black Sheep Ale and my companion had a local beer and they were both pretty awful really, they looked OK when they were poured but quickly lost any sort of head and didn't taste good. The ladies toilets were bad, one was blocked and the other one didn't even have a seat on it - unusual for a ladies and pretty poor really. There were quite a few people in and several were dining but unfortunately I suspect that they survive on trade from the many holiday cottages in the village therefore they will always have a new supply of customers each week regardless of whether their beer is any good or their ladies toilets have seats on them or not! My advice - if you visit avoid the cask beer.

Jacksters Yes, like you say these things happen. I’ll give it another try when I’m next in the area. I love that part of the world and we generally visit two or three times a year. I have a particular soft spot for Beadnell as it was the first place I ever stayed in the north east :-)

izzylauder The postal address of the Craster Arms on its own website includes ‘Chathill’ and I guess that is the location of the local sorting office serving Beadnell. The website also refers to the change of ownership in 2009. Previously, the pub was owned and run by a lady assisted by her daughter and son-in-law. They were very good and standards have gone down since 2009 – although I hope things will recover.
