The Church of St. Anne in Singleton was built circa 1861 and is a lovely little church both inside and out. There are regular weekly services with Junior church held on the first Sunday of each month. The church is a grade II listed building. Interestingly, the lychgate which can be seen in the photograph is also grade II listed, it is timber built and has a red tiled roof and adds wonderful character to the entrance to the churchyard, not to mention making a great backdrop for wedding photos! Anyone visiting the church at Singleton may be interested to know that all the original cottages in the village were also built at the same time as the church, roughly between about 1856 and 1861. The previous village of Singleton was literally pulled down and completely rebuilt by a wealthy Preston cotton mill owner called Thomas Miller who bought the estate of Singleton in 1852. By all accounts it was viewed as a 'model village' back then and it still retains much of its original character even all these years on.

Old and rather battered but much loved village hall. People keep talking about raising money to knock it down and build a new one in its place but I'd be rather sad if they did as this one has lots of character and holds lots of happy memories for many folks. Local people hire it for birthday and anniversary 'do's' occasionally but I don't think it's possible to get a licence to serve alcohol there any more so they tend to be 'bring your own' affairs. As a result, and also as it IS a bit tatty in all honesty, it wouldn't really appeal to anyone who wasn't a local as a function venue. There's a regular indoor carboot style affair held there every Sunday morning which seems quite popular. The local bowling club hosts its social occasions there and the local school seems to use it quite frequently too. It is also the practice hall for the rather splendid 'Singleton Cloggers', a Morris dancing troupe which was formed in Singleton in 1949 and, apart from a gap of a few years in the late sixties, have performed at Singleton gala ever since (although now they perform much further afield too). All in all it's a comfy old Bagpuss of a village hall and long may it stay that way!

Many years ago the Miller Arms was a Beefeater, it then passed through the hands of a couple of lesser known chains and all in all it was a pretty soulless sort of place. However, for the past few years it has been independently run by the same landlord and things have definitely improved. Theakston's and Pedigree are on cask. There is a conservatory and outside seating for the summer, and in the winter a fire blazes cheerfully in one corner. It now calls itself a gastro-pub but I haven't dined here for about a year so I can't really review the food. Basically there is a bar food menu for the pub area and a seperate menu for the restaurant area to the rear of the pub. Staff are friendly and welcoming and all in all it's come a long way since its days as part of a chain.
