Currently running a beer, food and arts festival. 21 beers from 6 local breweries, local bands, outside seating. The landlords have gone to a lot of effort to make this a welcoming pub. Friendly bar staff. Soft drinks for drivers and kids. Well kept real ales.
We've got a good local, but if you haven't, or you're looking for a change, it's a great venue. The special events are near continuous, creating a reason to visit almost every day.
Sunday - almost all tables reserved from 6pm in the main eating area. Book to avoid disappointment.

Very excellently odd items of dim sum. Great service, very friendly. Suffered my daughters stumbling Mandarin in good humour.

I've now been three times. Staff are consistently friendly and courteous. The menu has a few items not often found, as well as familiar favourites. Really fresh tasting bhindi bhajia, great spicing. Really sorry this isn't closer!
Just 36 seats, but sometimes packed and sometimes quiet. Consistent takeaway trade, clearly with regulars. For those who enjoy stronger flavours, ask for the lime pickle when you have your papadum. Though the standard chutneys are nice enough.

Small internet agency with an unusually hefty client list including Thomas Cook, Hewlett-Packard, BUPA, Skype, Gumtree, UpTrips, Bates White, MoveMe and Qype. Main strength is understanding what search engine usage says about segmentation and messages, and the visitor journey through to purchase - a combination of adverts, web analytics and user interface design.
We do a lot of research, some of which we write up in our blog. This research leads to some unusual commissions, such as the rescue of failing advertising, reworking non-selling sites, new product introductions, and microeconomics. We also do the normal work of finding buying visitors for your new or revised and inexplicably traffic free web site!

I had a completely different experience. The used car we bought had a non-obvious defect in the power steering, which we discovered after a few days. They gave us a loaner car while they investigated and attempted a repair - one days replacement, with the defective car being collected and the loaner vehicle being driven to my home. The purchased car came with a single key - they arranged for the local Fiat dealership to get an additional coded key. When we got the car back, after about a hundred miles the defect re-appeared. Same process - they collected the car, delivered a loaner and did all the same in reverse when the problem was fixed - which I understood involved replacing a chunk of the steering assembly.
The long period loaner car had an immobiliser problem - same deal; they drove out a replacement and picked up the defective vehicle.
The MOT and tax were exactly as the sales person had described. We had no missing documentation.
I was completely satisfied. The car was exactly what I wanted for a teen learning to drive, at a good price. The service we had wasn’t perfect - I’d have liked a completely defect free vehicle at handover, but then again I suspect the previous owner could have divulged more about the problem. Given that the vehicle had a problem, the attempts at rectification were all that I could reasonably ask for. Fixing intermittent problems isn’t easy.
Material Disclosure: I should make it clear that I know the Perrys Chairman (that’s visible on LinkedIn). I didn’t make a song and dance of this during the purchase, or when we had a problem. I didn’t feel that we had special treatment. We didn’t have people asking to make sure they were mentioned for good service, for example.
Waterstone's Booksellers - Manchester

Moderately large bookstore, modern economic style of exposed air conditioning ducts, well lighted, airy with a cafe in the back in the modern style of bookshops. Good sized and welcoming childrens area next to the cafe. Piped music: I guess some people like music in a bookstore, and it is less intimidating than a silent store, but music is a very personal thing. I cringed at many of the tune selections when I visited. It may be a shopping psychology thing - helping to make browsers decide to buy or get out?
The usual mix of books you’d expect at a store of this size. Nothing sprang out as being a particularly unusual book choice, or store layout. It’s a standard well designed format that works.
I still cringe a little inside, thinking about how bookstores of thirty or more years ago would often reflect the owners preoccupations, and often would have a secondhand section of strange out-of-print books (“The Immortal Tooth”, anyone?). The modern high street bookstore is pretty bland and the book choices rarely strange, eclectic or radical. They are a revenue optimisation exercise, which is why they have replaced the less profitable eccentrics. It’d be really great if some aspects of eccentricity could be brought back into the formula, though.
Templar Some little market towns still have those secong hand book shops reminiscent of “Black Books”. Usually with creepy owners and heaps of dust.

Family run free-range and barn chicken, quail and duck eggs, and a mix of vegetables from the farm - potatoes, broccoli, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and so on. Also carries chicken feed and some produce from other local producers, such as honey and ice cream from Angela’s dairy outside North Crawley.
Good accessibility, unless the door is closed. They really are open 7-7, 7 days a week - there’s always someone around because of the animal care needs.
Farm shop overlooks the egg washing and grading area - quite interesting for children when they’re packing eggs.
Templar Family were farmers in Cardington Beds..we used to grade eggs and shine lights through them, as kids, for pocket money.

These guys know that restaurants are an experience as much as they are a meal service. Pleasant decor, helpful staff, exposed kitchen, good food presented attractively and timely. Often very busy especially weekend evenings, they’ll try to seat groups of up to a dozen who turn up on the random off chance of seating. More expensive than Pizza Hut - but much better dining.
On our most recent visit for lunch, our party had £12 Sea Bass, £8 Caponata, £8 Pizza with fresh rocket and generous shavings of parmesan, and a £8 vegetarian pasta dish, with a side dish of salad. We nibbled on some tasty olives while we waited.
Outside seating is available. As well as three distinct ground level eating areas, there’s an upstairs dining area too.
Clean, well decorated toilets. Disabled access slightly difficult because of the lack of immediately adjacent parking and some steps.

Teppan-yaki and sushi in this fairly new restaurant. Half a dozen purpose built teppanyaki tables with extractor hoods over them, a bar area, tatami room, main dining area and outside dining area.
Sushi was good. One of the nicest pieces of tuna sashimi that I’ve had. Delicious salmon skin roll. Sashimi served in a bowl of ice. For an evening meal, expect to pay somewhere upwards of £25 per head.
Friday night, a live DJ playing a chillout mix. Bouncers on the door - looked like they might be expecting some difficulty when the crowded bars all around are emptied.
Nicely appointed loos are upstairs. I saw no sign of a lift for disabled access, though the rest of the restaurant shouldn’t offer too much difficulty.
Service was strange. We had no fewer than five staff visit the table, three taking orders. Slow preparing the bill and collecting payment, which marred an otherwise good evening.

Nothing special about the food, but friendly staff and a willingness to do their best. A couple of miles north of Bedford, so they cover the villages out to Sharnbrook and Pavenham. £10 minimum order for home delivery, or drive into Clapham.
