Great transport links, tram stop is less than 5 minutes walk away- Lace Market (best to use the park and ride, tram ticket on £2.70 all day as oppose to the cost of parking in town and the queue to pay after a concert). Regular visitor to the arena being a season ticket holder for the local ice hocket team based there and must say this is the best arena by far for ice hockey. The food choice is slowly getting better although they do let themselves down by not offering non alcoholic beers such as Becks, considering a high percentage of people drive here I feel they are lettting the customers down.
Best blocks to be in for seated concerts would have to be blocks 4, 5, 15 and 16 (blocks 5 and 15 for ice hockey). These are closest to the stage, to sit further away you might end up watching the big screens instead to get a better view (something I always try to stop myself doing but never manage it and then get angry with myself as I’ve paid a lot of money to see the band not a big screen). The diversity of the acts is fantastic, the Dalai Lama to Foo Fighters, Pink to Strictly Come Dancing. So glad Nottingham is finally on the arena map.

The Tea Palace is an absolute gem. Bit awkward to find (Notting Hill tube is the best, I think the number 27 bus goes close as well but not too sure), but it’s well worth it when you find it. Although expesnive they offer a bespoke service where you can go in and make your own brand of tea which you can name yourself and then when you run out, phone them up and order some more, they keep all your details. Absolutely loved the Palace Christmas tea, having withdrawal symptons already (I’ll buy the biggest caddy next time). Prices start from around £3.10 for a sampler caddy, to £14.00 for the biggest caddy which might sound a lot, but the tea here is far more superior in taste than your usual tea from a supermarket. And the restaurant, quite expensive, but worth it as a treat. 2 small crumpets with honeycomb set me back about £5.00 and the tea was extra. But you know what I can’t wait to go back there again as its a true experience well worth it if you love your cuppa.

It’s a beautiful building and when in New York you have to go there. We went in daylight and at nightime (wrap up warm!) and the difference with the lights is breathtaking. There’s an audio tour you can do where “Tony the Cab Driver” talks you round all the sides and points out buildings, telling you the history. This is worth it alone to give you a real sense of the city and what it took to build it, however do the tour in the day time otherwise you’ll have fun trying to find the buildings he’s talking about :-)
I did read somewhere that if a person proposes on Valentines Day within the Empire State Building and is accepted, they can return each Valentines Day for free. You’ll have to check this out, but what a romantic place- just think of the end of Sleepless in Seattle.
I can’t wait to go back to this majestical city and will certainly go back to ESB.

The building is absolutely beautiful and just behind the “White House”. We did the tour last year and they take you round the whole factory. You see people working and learn a bit about the history of cigars. Didn’t know until the tour, most Cuban cigars are named after books that were read to the workers as they rolled the cigars- Romeo and Juliet, Count of Montecristo etc. They still employ readers to read to the workers today. Well worth a visit, although not for those with mobility problems, some steep steps.
