Morrisons - Breightmet
Bury Road, Breightmet, Bolton, Greater Manchester BL2 6QT
06.12.2011
This is a fairly new Morrisons replacing the previous Netto that was here.
At first glance it seems a welcome addition to the area yet it is typically over priced as Morrisons often are yet with great offers.
On first entering there is a significant feeling of claustraphobia, there is a lot crammed into the relatively modest sized space with very little room to manouver, you’re basically ceiling to floor, wall to wall shelving. It is not the kind of environment you can comfortably browse, more a quick in and out. In a previous incarnation the building was a Safeway and encompassed the adjoining space too (now Home Bargains) and this was a much better set-up, being Breightmet’s only supermarket it needs that extra space.
In this space they have squeezd all departments bar a deli, however there is a fresh fish counter, in store bakery and frozen section.
The selection of goods they stock seems satisfactory and there is of course parking out front which many will find bonus.
The staff are helpful and pleasant.
Two things the pemises are lacking however are a cash machine and as previously stated, more space.
Tabak Restaurant - Manchester
199 Wilmslow Road, Rusholme, Manchester, Greater Manchester M14 5AQ
11.03.2009
The Tabak is situated in Rusholme on what is locally known as 'The Curry Mile’ an area which is flooded with Indian Cuisine which can be very hit or miss!
However, the Tabak has always been one of my absolute favourates.
Inside and out there’s a certain opulence to it, you feel like you’re really dining out somewhere a little bit special, a rose amongst the thorn to be a bit of a cliché.
The staff are very well presented and seriously know the meaning of customer service and ensure that you are treated well and that your custom is appreciated.
The food is exemplary and of a very high standard, it looks good, it tastes good and although not the absolute cheapest the price is affordable and considering the environment, the service and the actual food, is more then good value.
The restaurant is clean, light and airy reminiscent of an expensive hotel or ballroom even and yet mixes a modern feel well with traditional splendor.
I have never been disappointed here and as I previously said this will always remain one of my favourate restaurants.
pizza hut - Bolton
Bolton Gate Retail Park, Turton Street, Bolton, Greater Manchester BL1 2EX
11.03.2009
Now I know that to the discerning food connoisseurs out there Pizza Hut may seem exempt from the 'Restaurant’ arena and snubbed yet if you’re a low income family with young children Pizza Hut is often as glamorous as it gets and really in these situations shouldn’t be snubbed.
In the past 6 months I’ve visited this particular branch twice. It’s situated in the Bolton Gate retail park and has plenty of parking and access. From the outside it’s am modern building and looks clean and tidy with the trade-mark design and decor that one would associate with a Pizza Hut. Inside it’s on one level and of adequate size with various styles of seating from open tables to the more secluded 'booths’.
The staff are incredibly welcoming, chatty and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. It really is good old fashioned honest 'service’ which is often missing in many modern establishments and as would be expected they are very child friendly, the simple faithful free balloon is always a big hit with my kids.
You have three main options at the moment, if you’re there at lunchtime you can have the buffet (eat as much as you like) or if you arrive later you can participate in the new 'Happy Hour’ deal and obviously at any time you can order off the menu.
The buffet is extremely good value (ideal for students!) but the selection is obviously limited and timing is hit and miss as often you’ll be hanging around like a vulture waiting for the pizza to be replenished as everyone else has eaten it all!
The only minor problem we’ve had with this branch is that on both visits the Ice Cream Factory machine has been broken, which is a little disappointing if you have children though they will bring you out a bowl of scooped icecream which you can add the sauces and sweets etc to as a substitute, a rather generous portion of ice cream at that.
All in all it’s a pleasant eating experience whether you’re with friends, your partner or your family. It’s relaxing, unobtrusive and on both occasions has been pleasantly populated with enough customers to give it atmosphere but not too many to intrude upon your experience.
Let’s not forget the food though, the pizza is incredibly tasty and good value and thankfully soft drinks are refillable free.
Well definitely be going back however I highly recommend checking their website before you go as they often have promotions on with printable vouchers.
Far Pavilion - Swinton
249-251 Manchester Road, Swinton, Manchester, Greater Manchester M27 4TT
11.03.2009
I used to live a stones throw from this restaurant and pre-kids when our pockets actually had a some money in them my husband and I used to treat ourselves by going here.
The Far Pavilion is situated on Manchester Road in Swinton, not too far from Victoria Park and is in a small terrace which consist of four takeaways.
From the outside it looks okay, a little dark perhaps and not as inviting as it could be but clean and smart all the same.
However once you step inside it’s cosy and relaxed and the darkness acts as a relaxant to your mood.
The staff are very polite and once you visited a few times they will recognise you which adds a personal touch to your dining experience. they chat just enough to you to make you feel welcomed and that your custom is appreciated yet they allow you the space so that you don’t feel harassed or under scrutiny.
The place itself is clean and comfortable, the decor isn’t new or very inspiring but at the same time it seems to suit the ambiance.
They have an acceptably extensive menu at reasonable prices and should you desire something not on the menu they’re very accomodating.
Perhaps their most tempting benefit is the Sunday buffet which at a snip of a price offers all you can eat! Now, it’s not the most extensive buffet and the 'deserts’ are shall we say interestingly quaint (fruit and Angel Delight?!) but the curries are delicious!
All in all a pleasant night out and should you be in the mood for a takeaway they offer a takeaway service.
So good food’s, good service and good prices the jobs a goodun’ !
Yates's - Bury
20 Market Street, Bury, Greater Manchester BL9 0AJ
17.01.2009
Yates is a well known chain of pub’s with grub and this branch is located centrally to Bury’s shopping area and also amongst the various other pubs etc making it an ideal meet up place to embark on a pub crawl or pre-clubbing.
Many Yates are pretty generic once inside and this is no exception. I’m quite ambivalent to it or perhaps leaning towards indifference as it’s neither good nor bad it’s just relatively okay.
Inside it’s quite tatty in places and the lack of lighting makes it feel a little squalid at times.
The food and drink prices are highly competitive with many promotions to save you even more money and the food itself is quite nice.
They have a well stocked bar with pretty much a bit of everything behind it and the staff are pleasant although a little slow at times.
Mothercare - Bury
Mill Gate Shopping Centre, Bury, Greater Manchester BL9 0NY
17.01.2009
Mothercare in Bury is one of the smaller Mothercare branches and only possesses one shop floor level for the customers so as such the range it can carry is somewhat limited. it is centrally located and amongst the main shopping area in Bury.
Basically you have the front half of the shop dedicated to clothing, the baby and toddler clothes on the right and childrens clothes on the left with the maternity clothing behind it. The middle of the shop contains the nursery equipment such as coots, bedding, buggies, prams, accessories, car seats, toiletries, bottles and breast pumps etc. That just leaves us with the back of the store which comprises of a small toy department and a baby changing/feeding area.
The changing area is handy, however don’t expect too much, it’s often smelly and the decor is drab and a greyish off white, it’s not the nicest place to sit and feed your baby.
So, although small they do manage to fit in a representation of each department that the company as a whole sell and anything that they don’t have in store they can and will easily order for you to either be delivered to your home or to the store.
The shop is fairly easy to navigate around, even with a buggy and is organised in 'zones’ for each department making the most of the space they have.
The staff are friendly and helpful and attentive to your needs.
Nationwide Building Society - Bury
16 Market Street, Bury, Greater Manchester BL9 0AB
17.01.2009
This branch of the Nationwide Building Society is Centrally located being across the road from one of the exits of the Mill Gate shopping centre.
Although fairly small when you get inside it’s bright, airy and light with seating for you should you be accompanying someone who has to queue.
There are two service desks at the back which are generally both manned with staff (unlike the 'reception’ style desk at the front) and although I’ve not been through to the back, there is what I assume to be private offices for personal and confidential meetings etc.
The staff are smartly dressed, professional, polite and very efficient and they alone make it a pleasure to do business with them.
I can’t really Fault this branch, the premises is tidy and clean and new looking and the staff are great.
United Norwest Co Op - Bolton
687 Bury Road, Bolton, Greater Manchester BL2 6HP
17.01.2009
This branch of United Norwest Co Op Ltd is located on Bury road which is the main road from Bolton to Bury taking you through Breightmet so it’s very accessible by bus and car and has it’s own parking area and a cash machine (that doesn’t charge)
Inside it’s got a pretty intuitive layout despite it only being average-small in size. It has everything you could expect or need such as tins and packets, fruit and veg, chilled, frozen, drinks, alcohol, toiletries etc I doubt you could do a family shop there yet if you’re short on time it’s handy to nip into to get your necessities and a few treats.
The place is easy to navigate with a buggy and the staff are attentive and helpful.
Subway - Bolton
2-10 Bradshawgate, Bolton, Greater Manchester BL1 1DG
17.01.2009
Subway is an American chain which has made it’s way well and truly into the Uk, so much infact that off the top of my head I can count three branches in the central part of Bolton alone, so obviously they must be doing something right.
This branch is the most centrally located one and is amongst the main shopping drag so is prime position for hungry shoppers to take a load off and have their fill.
It’s not the largest of places inside so seating is a little restricted and tight fitting, I really wouldn’t bother going in if you have a pram with you!
You can get a variety of 'subs’ with many fillings which you can pick and choose from, all made up freshly in front of you. Keep your eye out for 'sub of the day deal’ as it’s very reasonably priced.
The staff are competent and efficient and the seating area is fairly clean.
Adams - Farnworth
Bolton Road, Bolton, Greater Manchester BL4 7JU
17.01.2009
Adams is located right near to the Moses Gate tavern (very handy for post drinking munchies!).
Although not much to look at from the outside and very small on the inside they do very tasty kebabs, curry and pizza at affordable prices with great deals on offer. They also offer a delivery service which is problem free and quick.
the staff are friendly and the food tastes great, so does it really matter that the place itself doesn’t look like the most desirable take away you’ve ever stepped foot in?
