Chinese Garden

I must say, I was really surprised by this tourist attraction of Zurich. They have a chinese park right in the centre. This garden of park which was built as a gift from the chinese sister town of Kunming. The park is extremely clean and inside there you feel as if you had stepped in another world. Of course, there are always the tourists reminding you that you’re still in Zurich, but it’s really amazing. The bad thing about it, I think, is that you have to pay an entrance fee, which I find pretty strange for a park. But well, it is really new so may they are asking entrants to have to cover up the investment. Anyway, the gardens are lovely and perfect for a romantic walk.

Rietberg Museum

The Rietberg Museum is a real must while in Zurich. I am really happy to have visited it. The museum is huge and is separated into three different buildings, each of them obviously hosting a different type of exhibition. What makes this museum even more interesting is that the exhibition only contain non-European art. So what you mainly see here is art from Asia. There are also many objects from Africa, mainly wooden statues. In the Villa Wesendork you get to visit a lovely exhibition from Southeast Asia, which really impressed me. The museum lies on a hill and is accessible by tram no 7

Opera House

The Opera House in Zurich would be a great thing to visit if you are into that sort of thing. But unfortunately we couldn’t afford that, so we resumed to look at the building from the outside and try to find out as much as we could about it. It seems that the Opera House is part of a project of the famous architects Helmer and Fellner, who built around 50 theaters all throughout Europe. This theatre is not very big, as it can only host up to 110 viewers at a time. The building’s exterior is lovely and I particularly liked the angels on the roof. The building is worth seeing if only for historic reasons.

Zurich Railway Station

The main railway station in Zürich is almost as beautiful as Grand Central Station in New York. It’s definitely one of the better train stations I have been to. Like the rest of Zürich everything is organized (the train departs punctually) and the station area is impressively clean. I like this station because it’s full of life and noise, and there are a few good shops here as well. My favourite is L´Occitane where you can buy skincare and fragrances from Provence in France.
Throughout the year they organise different events here. I remember we watched a beach volleyball competition here once, another time a soccer game on a huge screen, a rock concert, and we also visited a market. I’ve heard the Christmas market is really good, so don’t miss that if you travel to Zürich in December.
