Good pub in heart of Brighton - but a bit off the main drag. Good atmosphere, small outside area and nice food. Feels a bit chainy and the seating isn’t that comfortable - but definitely worth a look-in.

Ok, seeing as it’s the only place in Kemp Town that actually shows the football on Sky, if you actually like watching football you might give this place more stars. I, however, do not and there was nothing about this pub which made up for the fact that I had been dragged there to watch some ‘important’ match. Bland, unremarkable and there’s no reason to go here (apart from the big screen) over the many, lovely drinking establishments in the vicinity.

Pub in the heart of Brighton, down a tiny lane filled with jewellery shops. On entering the pub, you would be forgiven for thinking it was just another gastro pub. But actually it has a real cosy feel, with a real fire place and pleasant music and a family feel. The menu is surprisingly short and the food is excellent. The roast was one of the best I’ve had when eating out and I even like the veggie options which is unusual! The bar staff really make the place though - very friendly, knowledgable and very attentive table service even when they’re busy at the bar. Good range of ales and wines. I was impressed that they had stopped selling pork scratchings as the pig skin they had been getting just wasn’t good enough quality - certainly a lot more pride in their service than your usual pub.

Actually called Hectors House! A fab pub in Brighton, away from the hustle and bustle of the lanes. Loads of live music - bands regularly play here interspersed with local DJs playing a big variety of music. There’s a pool table and grotty toilets to complete the feel of the place. Good range of drinks, from ale (Harveys) to lovely cheap shots like tuaca and their own cocktails. On occasion Hectors also puts on theme nights - I was at the dress like a pirate night in September and it was excellent, packed and a bit frightening! Recommend in particular the D.I.S.C. nights there.

This is a good pub in the cooler, calmer side of Brighton. Very busy on a Saturday night but with a friendly atmosphere and plenty of staff so you don't have to queue for long at the bar. Staff were a bit overenthusiastic when it came to chucking out time, but other than that were friendly enough. The best thing about this pub is the things that you can find secretly hidden in the wall decorations...

The Great Eastern is by far the best pub in Brighton. It's a lovely, little proper pub just down the hill from the train station. A good range of real ales and cider, including Old Rosie, Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter, Summer Lightening and Plucking Pheasant. Plus they have an awesome range of bourbons, which has made them quite famous. Cannot fault the food at all - less on offer than your usual pub, but what they serve isn't the usual, pre-frozen fried food that pubs normally serve these days. The Sunday lunch is generous and you have a choice of what meat you want for the main, and the chef makes his own red onion chutney which is really tasty. The music is eclectic and the bar staff are happy and friendly and clearly enjoy working there - and the manager clearly knows what he's doing and is well-liked by the punters. What else can I say, I can't fault it. It's everything you would want in a local. Unfortunately, living in London means I only get to go when I'm there on holiday.
