Petit Paris - Edinburgh
38-40 Grassmarket, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 2JU

(aktualisiert am 07.07.2009)
I ate here with a small group of friends and generally found this small restaurant to be reasonable. The staff are perfectly polite and reasonably quick to satisfy your requests.
As someone who’s both lived and worked in France, it’s worth mentioning that the staff do indeed speak French - so if you’re interested in making use of the French language, it’s not a problem.
With regards to price, I found Petite Paris to be slightly on the more expensive side of affairs. However, I managed to have a nice meal with a glass of wine (no starters,) for around twenty pounds. So if you’re a student it’s certainly not out of your depth financially, but at the same time I suspect this is somewhere you don’t want to eat on a regular basis.
My only real criticism is that the name “Petite Paris” should perhaps be taken literally. As at times, you may very well find yourself quite pushed for space and it can be hard to maneuver around staff, tables and other customers when busy.
All in all, a nice if slightly cramped restaurant, which has something to offer for at least a one time dining experience.
Cult Clothing Co - Edinburgh

Cult Clothing is a popular clothing store just across from Prince’s Street, which offers a pleasant shopping experience.
Although I cannot speak for the girl’s section, the male section offers a variety of brands and labels as well as some unique pieces which you wont find else where. To top it off, it’s ideal for those summer months as the selection on offer is both colourful and fresh.
With regards to the staff, I’ve never had any problems. They generally appear friendly and happy to be help should you have a problem.
Once again, like many clothing stores in Edinburgh (and no doubt the UK,) Cult Clothing can be just a touch on the expensive side and certainly you need to be prepared to spend some serious money for that piece which catches your eye.
In summary, friendly, popular, up to date with trends and offering unique original designs. Cult Clothing is a definite choice for clothing in Edinburgh, should you have the money for it.
River Island - Edinburgh
111 Princes Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 3AA
05.07.2009
River Island is one of those clothing stores, which I seldom visit. Generally speaking, I find their range poor compared to the Topman on the same street.
However, on the occassion I’ve been in the store I’ve found the staff to be friendly if rather shy. As mentioned, the range of clothing in terms of brands and labels may not satisfy some people’s hardcore fashionable desire, but it does encompass enough that you’re likely to find something you like.
In terms of price, this is where I feel River Island truly begins to shine. By comparison, River Island is considerably cheaper than other clothing stores in Edinburgh such as USC, All Saints and Topman, as well as having reasonably regular sales throughout the season - where of course prices get slashed.
Location-wise, it’s great. Situated just on Prince’s Street, it’s within the hub of activity of Edinburgh’s busiest shops.
All in all, River Island is a good, reasonably fashionable, cheap store, which is certainly worth a look.
Opal Lounge - Edinburgh
51A 51a George Street, City Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 2HT
05.07.2009
“Argh, you just stuck your finger right in my *** eye” - were the first words uttered by myself on my first trip to Opal Lounge and with good reason. (Nobody likes temporary blindness, not even in a night club.)
I only ever went to Opal Lounge when it operates as a night club in the evenings and found it to be a generally pleasant yet stylish club, which has a well used dance floor and nice decor.
However, the failing point for Opal Lounge in my opinion, is its lack of space. Hence almost losing an eye, donning an eye patch and telling everyone that I’ve got scurvy. At times, it is literally almost impossible to move when the bar gets at its busiest. To add to the sheer frustration, one can often come to the conclusion that the crowd isn’t moving at all and your night can be come seriously impaired due to lack of ability to get to the bar, dance or even get out.
In summary, worth a look, even only out of curiosity. Yet also maybe advisable to take out health insurance at the same time.
GHQ - Edinburgh
Piccardy Place, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 3JT
05.07.2009
If you’re one of those members of the LGBT community who are sick of “We’re here, we’re queer, get used to it.” (We are aware love, now why don’t you change the record?) Then the good news is that GHQ is neither particularly offensive, vulgar or campy. Rather it could be considered one of those few gay bars where you could be just in any other club - ignoring the flamboyant posers hanging around.
The staff are friendly enough, tend to be quick to respond and won’t leave you waiting at the bar so long that you can almost feel your skin cells age.
With regards to prices, with the exception of Vibe - where drinks are fantastically cheap, prices are decidedly average. However, in my opinion, this is made up for by the large amount of space to move in the club as well as its funky choice of decor.
Yet I must advise you not to linger too long on the beds at the back of the club. (Don’t ask.)
On one final note before summary, the location is ideal for gaying as it’s in the pink triangle, Leith Walk. Should you get bored and want to go elsewhere there are enough bars in the local area to keep you busy. Should you get too drunk, the good news is there are rooms in the building upstairs and adjacent to GHQ.
In summary, it’s gay baby, but if you’re reading this then you probably already knew that. Worth a look should you fancy a fun night out.
Boots Opticians - Edinburgh
101 Princes Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 2DQ
05.07.2009
“Oh, Boots, how you complete my life.” - Are my own personal sentiments on this franchise and certainly on this particular store.
As I practically shop here for all my skin products and hair care needs, I’m in the store on a reasonably regular basis.
There’s certainly nothing bad that can be said about the staff, but anything more than a “where is x item” request should probably not be in their direction.
The price of products ranges from cheap to moderate and stocks most of the regular/ popular brands of products that you’re looking for. It’s also worth mentioning that the range is wide enough to satisfy most desires.
As a personal example, I buy hair shampoo, conditioner, texturising gum, dry shampoo and foundation from here.
With regards to location, it’s ideal situated on the corner of Prince’s Street close by Waverley Bridge which connects you to Old Town.
In summary, most certainly worth a look should you happen to be in need of beauty products.
Harvey Nichols - Edinburgh
30-34 St. Andrew Square, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 1AF
05.07.2009
Despite being incredibly expensive, Harvey Nichols is well deserving of its four star rating.
To begin, the staff are polite, friendly and handle requests competently. When it comes to breath of choice and selection. Harvey Nicols wins hands down. You’re certainly spoiled for choice and this may reflect in your cash balance, as you’re most likely to see something while wandering around.
My only regret about this store is that unless you’ve got the money then you’re unlikely to shop here for anything more than one or two items.
All Saints - Edinburgh
99 Princes Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 3AA
05.07.2009
To start off this review, I feel it’s worthwhile mentioning that if All Saints had not been so expensive, it most certainly would have got four stars.
As always All Saints is fashionably clique with its selections of brands of clothing and there’s generally nothing wrong with that. The clothes are of the highest quality and durable, while still retaining that cutting edge that you’re looking for to get those looks on the streets.
However, I feel I must mention for those with a light wallet, All Saints is most likely undesirable. If you’re willing to splash out some well earned cash to get something you really like then perhaps you may consider this store.
Camping Lez-Eaux - St Pair sur Mer
451 Route Guigeois, 50380 St Pair sur Mer
11.06.2009
(aktualisiert am 16.06.2009)
Camping Du Chateau Lez Eaux is yet again another campsite, which I worked on in France.
Lez Eaux is a particularly small campsite situated in practically the middle on nowhere in Normandy France. The site is placid enough itself and dare I say quite picturesque. A shop, bar (with internet access) and take away restaurant are all situated on site near the campsite owner’s rather impressive looking house.
This is one campsite where you shouldn’t consider having a car, it’s a necessity. Otherwise, you may find that your holiday although relaxing, is rather boring.
The layout of the site is actually quite easy to wander around - and it’s usually particularly hard to get lost. In this instance, the site is strictly only a Thompson, KeyCamp and Eurocamp.
All in all, a nice enough campsite, which certainly does promote rest and relaxation. However, it wont encourage an active holiday - so those with teenagers or excitable children may find this campsite not to their tastes.
Edinburgh Playhouse - Edinburgh
18-22 Greenside Place, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 3AA
16.06.2009
The Playhouse, just situated across from Prince’s Street on Leith Walk, is an absolutely fantastic place.
The building itself is superbly designed with eye fetching decor and well furnished. The Playhouse offers a variety of shows, which change frequently, providing something to suit everybody’s tastes.
The show’s are usually of the highest quality and the acting believable. The staff are friendly, well informed and usually listen well to requests.
However, regrettably, the prices are rather expensive even with student deals on offer. Although the wide variety of shows along with the quality of their production makes it very much so worthwhile.
If ever in Edinburgh, certainly something worth checking out.
