Hawksmoor - Covent Garden

11 Langley Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JG

21.09.2011

As you will read in all the other reviews, this place is well worth a visit, and does the best steaks in town. We used to go to Gaucho all the time, but I have to say, Hawksmoor is far better. The staff are excellent. Friendly, helpful and laid back, but you still feel like you’re being spoilt. (if that makes sense). The cocktail bar is a great stop before sitting down. Champagne Charlie is one of my favourites. We’ve been a couple of times now, and it never disappoints. My only one wish would be that they have a ‘ladies cut’, as both times I’ve not been able to finish my portion ;-)
Can’t wait to go again.

Odette's - Primrose Hill

130 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 8XL

29.06.2011

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. We chose to have the set lunch menu a few weeks ago, and it was absolutely delicious. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Love the newly renovated garden space, perfect for a private function. Now owned by Welsh chef Bryn Williams, he prides himself on using Welsh produce and local. If you've never been, do yourself a favour & treat yourself. You will not be disappointed.

The Orange Tree - Totteridge

7 Totteridge Village, Totteridge , London N20 8NX

29.06.2011

We went there on a Sunday for lunch, and have to say I was extremely disappointed. Not only was the restaurant over crowded, it was noisy and warm. Felt like they'd tried to cram in as many tables as possible. You were constantly having to squeeze in and out of your chair to let me pass, not to mention crying babies and noisy children. I won't be going back in a hurry. This is more 'Harvester' then 'Gastro pub'. It's a pity as we really are so limited to good places to eat in the area.

The Drapers Arms - Islington

44 Barnsbury Street, Islington, London N1 1ER

09.03.2011

I love the Drapers Arms. Its a wonderful pub/restaurant. The food is always good and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a wonderful Sunday lunch with the sharer plates. Good value, good food, good wine. We will always go back.

Rossopomodoro Covent Garden - Covent Garden

50-52 Monmouth Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9EP

05.11.2010

Great food, great atmosphere. We even spotted a 'celeb' while dining. It's close to the theatre so I'm sure it happens often. Our waiter was great. Very Italian, had some great recommendations too and the mozarella was AMAZING! I'd never been before, but for a dinner with the girls, bottle of wine, great food and great conversation, would go back time and time again.

Hotel Gansevoort + Bar (Rooftop Lounge) - New York

9th Avenue 18, 10014 New York

01.11.2010

One of my favourite places to stay in New York. In the heart of the meat-packing district you've got lots of lovely restaurants and bars to choose from.
The hotel bar is also great with outside balcony. It does get busy and be sure to bring your ID. They will ask on the door.

Hengrave Hall - Hengrave

Hengrave, Bury St Edmunds, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk IP28 6LZ

01.11.2010

Elegant. Enchanting. Timeless. Hengrave Hall will transport you to another world. This exquisitely beautiful Tudor mansion, located just north of Bury St Edmunds and in the heart of the picturesque village of Hengrave, boasts almost fifty acres of sweeping lawns and meadows, a majestic lake, and its own idyllic chapel.

Hengrave Hall is where we got married & wouldn't change a thing. David & Mary have taken great pride (and time) in bringing Hengrave back to life. The rooms are beautiful and everything has been well thought out.

Birkenhead house - Hermanus

7th Avenue, Voelklip, Hermanus

01.11.2010

"Perched high on the Hermanus cliffs, the regal Birkenhead House and deluxe adjacent Villa, overlook the whale watching paradise of Walker Bay. Accommodating guests in the utmost luxury, this is the perfect destination for those seeking the pinnacle of seaside living." and extract from their website & so true. This is by far the best place we have ever stayed. So lovely that we went back & Kieron proposed to me. It will always be a special place. You just have to go.

Athenaeum Hotel - London

116 Piccadilly, Mayfair, London W1J 7BJ

01.11.2010

We had a wonderful evening at the Athenaeum in the Whiskey Bar. Angelo is an expert, with over 270 whiskies, the biggest collection in Europe, you will walk away knowing a lot more about the process then before. It costs £50 per head and is really worth it.

The bar is friendly, cosy and discreet. Also for all you smokers out there, they have a gorgeous chair & ashtray outside. They really make you feel welcome.
If I'm in the area, I'dl always pop back for a nightcap or cocktail.

Waterton Park Hotel - Walton

Walton Hall, Walton, Wakefield, West Yorkshire WF2 6PW

01.11.2010

I booked the hotel after seeing the website and pictures. It looked so pretty. Unfortunately completely different on arrival. It's old and tired. Which is a pity. Our room was very basic, the furniture was again old and worn. We had to ask for more towels in the morning and there was no turn down service in the evening. But the worst thing was our toilet seat. It was stained from the Blue loo cleaner they use which was all over the back & when you lifted the toilet seat it was broken at the top with the wood showing. Totally unacceptable. Charlies Bar which is is in Walton Hall spelt of chlorine from the swimming pool below. There was a wedding going on when we were there and people were going outside to smoke. The sliding door didn't even work properly. Breakfast the next morning was not great either, food was cold, service was bad. Very shabby indeed. Would not recommend, and would never go there again. Pretty sad really as for a 4 star hotel, it's not up to standard, but has so much potential.
