  This is a classic greasy spoon. A beautiful layout in a series of booths. This place will be re-created at great expense by trendies in aprox 20 years. Food is well cooked if a little greasy (thou that is exactly what it says on the tin). Friendly but discreet staff (I can’t believe I’m writing this about a cafe, but they are!).

  Breakfst at the Ablemarle. I broke with my diet and went for the fully cooked breakfst here. Wow. They had black pudding on offer in about 6 different ways, 6 types of hand reared spoon fed bacon, 57 different viareties of eggs etc. I went for Black pudding hash and whilst its probably still coating my arteries, it was delish. My dining partner had something similarly fattening but delicious.
  A slightly taciturn maitre d’. But then I realised: having a maitre d’ this qualified at BREAKFAST is both a contrivance and a sign of the place making an effort. And in fact the rest of the service was impeccable. A slightly flash restaurant with lots of arabs and rich americans from the hotel.
  I will go again. But only now and then. My cholesterol, patience and wallet could take more often.
