soho joe - Soho

22-25 Dean Street, Soho, London W1D 3RY

Perfect for pizza. Had an great meal in this busy restaurant just before going to see Blood Brother’s at the Pheonix. We were pushed for time, so thankfully the service was fast and we were able to enjoy our pizzas, salad and wine in the warm and relaxed atmosphere. The desserts also looked tempting, so we will definitely be going back sometime for another (hopefully less rushed) meal.

Cramond Brig Bar & Restaurant - Edinburgh

Cramond Bridge Queensferry Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH4 6DY

Nice location next to River Almond, you can walk down to Cramond island along the riverbank from here, and will pass a field of ponies just over the bridge.
Food was very bad when we ate here, but service was friendly and it all arrived at the same time. If you do eat here, suggest keeping it very simple.

Kids can make their own pizza at the table, they get to wear a chef’s hat and put on a choice of toppings, it’s then taken away and cooked. My son did that, and was very pleased with his meal.

Upated – visited again in 2011 and it had changed significantly, location is still good but now the food was as well. Likely to be coming back.

bistro limekilns - Limekilns

38 main steet, Dunfermline, Scotland KY11 3HL

18.09.2011

Handy location on the Fife coastal path between Kincardine and North Queensferry.

Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday, and was surprised to find it quite quiet. However, the food was good, and good value, and gave us the energy to carry on quite a few more miles.

Moon Fish - Aberdeen

9 Correction Wynd, Aberdeen, Scotland AB10 1HP

Had a great evening meal here, very inventive menu, the scallop / black pudding starter was excellent and the main courses all seemed good. Portion sizes are not large so enjoyed the cheese plate as well.

Small restaurant so you should book in advance, it can be a bit noisy but the staff were very helpful.

Camerons Tea Rooms - Linlithgow

Very pleasant tea rooms at the west end of Linlithgow high street. Helpful staff, and a good choice on the menu.

Landhotel Dietzel - Arnsberg

Neuer Weg 13A, 59757 Arnsberg

Had a great time here in July 2011, staying here with a reed band while taking part in some schützenfests in the area. Although the hotel is quite old, the staff were very helpful and looked after us well. There’s a small bowling alley next to the restaurant downstairs (Bill Bryson wouldn’t approve), but it kept the children entertained.

The pizza is good, but we came here for the hot drinks and free croissant each morning during a recent stay in London. Really enjoyed sitting at the stainless steel tables, drinking several hot chocolates and watching the world go by for less than the cost of a hotel breakfast. Friendly place, but no frills.

Aéroport Saint-Exupéry - Lyon

69125 Lyon

21.10.2010

Fairly small airport, but well laid out.

Transfers into Lyon are fairly poorly documented, since they changed in August 2010.

The RhoneExpress tram has replaced the Satobus for transport into Lyon town centre. It suited us well, since our hotel was very close to the destination at Part-Dieu, but it could be annoying if you are relying on one of the other stops the Satobus used to use. The cost is a bit higher than the bus, 23Euros return for adults, 19Euros return for ages 12-25, and free for under 12s. As far as I could see, the only alternative to the RhoneExpress is a taxi or private car.

The staff on the RhoneExpress were extremely helpful, even whlie there were riots and demonstrations going on throughout Lyon, they got us to the airport in good time, laying on a coach for the last stage of the trip since the tram-lines were blockaded by schoolkids.

La Traboulerie - Bellecour

58 Rue Mercière, 69002 Lyon

20.10.2010

Small restaurant, good friendly service & good traditional food. I am not an expert on andouillete, but it seemed good to me, as did the quenelle. Probably one of the best value restaurants on Rue Merciere. My son had the kid's menu, and they brought him raw burgers with a hot-plate to cook them at the table, which he rather enjoyed.

Ozer Restaurant - Fitzrovia

5 Langham Place, Mayfair, London W1B 3DG

Had a very pleasant early evening meal here, a good varied menu and all the dishes we chose were good, particularly lamb tagine...

Seems to be a good place for parties and large groups, but there are also a lot of smaller tables. It was getting very busy as we left, but the waiting staff didn't hurry us, and were attentive throughout.
