Lush - Glasgow

I used to avoid Lush because of the overpowering smell – even walking by the door I would catch myself holding my breath so that I wouldn’t breathe it in. Friends would rave about their products but I held fast and up until recently was probably one of the few who had never tried their products. This changed when my scalp started reacting badly to hair dyes. Traumatised at the thought of grey hair I looked for alternatives and came across Lush henna. I visited the shop and once inside it wasn’t as bad as I had thought it would be. Meanwhile the staff explained all about their henna products (and a few others as well), helped me decide on the correct colour, gave me a free sample of ‘ultra bland’ to put round my hair line to prevent the henna staining and free gloves to apply the henna with. The product worked and although footery is much cheaper than normal chemical hair dye.
The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and I will definitely be braving the smells and going back for more.

In my opinion this is the best place to have lunch in Auchterrarder. The decor is lovely - muted greys and creams, wooden tables and chairs and even some booths. You can have standard fare of sandwiches, bagels, paninis, salads or go for the Specials. These are displayed in the cabinet as you walk in and seem to focus on weird and wonderful combinations of vegetables with a bit of meat or fish thrown in for good measure. On our last visit my friend had the taster plate from the specials cabinet - roast vegetable loaf, puff pastry with black pudding and a sausage roll far removed from your typical sausage roll as you can get - I had to try some as she raved so much about it and the combination of herbs and spices was superb. This was served with a side salad, puy lentils (done in a balsamic vinigarette maybe?) and some lovely potatoes roasted with herbs. I wasn’t so adventurous and had the classic club sandwich: toasted brown bread, mayo, turkey, crispy bacon, gherkins, sunblush tomatoes, swiss cheese and lettuce. It was delicious. We followed this with cake and coffee and spent about 5 minutes looking at the cakes in the cabinet trying to make up our mind what to go for. All are homemade and are very tempting. We eventually settled on the chocolate fudge cake and the fresh orange juice cake and I took home some millionaires shortbread (made just as it should be - lovely caramel and a crumbly base) and the biggest piece of mars bar cake that I’d ever seen.
The coffee was good, better than your average coffee shop and the staff were friendly and helpful. Lots of the customers seem to be regulars here which can’t be a bad thing. If I had more time then I would be too.
Although a little out of the centre this place is well worth a visit if you’re passing through Auchterarder and parking is easy - you can generally find a spot right outside avoiding the chaos of parking in the town centre.
