Two Brewers - Hadlow

Maidstone road, Hadlow, Tonbridge, Kent TN11 0DH

25.01.2011

As i am someone who drinks real ale it has to be said that there are not that many places in Hadlow that do a good job for a good price. Though there are other pubs they are more expensive (with one never having any real ale at all!) The Two Brewers is located in the heart of Hadlow itself. a short walk up form the shops and you can't miss the place! Those that know their real ale pubs and companies will automatically know one thing from the outside- that this is a Harvey's pub. Upon walking through the doors you turn right into what you would think to be a small bar. Quite the opposite in fact! The owners, Chris and Sue Snape will immediately give you a warm welcome (as will Molly, the pub dog!)

The pub itself reminds me of the traditional pubs- the way a pub should be. Let's be honest now, most pubs these days have gotten a little carried away with the deco! The Two Brewers however has achieved something that, pub wise at least, is hard to achieve: remain traditonal but still have that clean fresh look to it. The local's are friendly and very easy to talk to and the pub has nice easy atmosphere to go with it.

What is suprising is the amount of beers avaliable- a minimum of two beers on pump at any point (all Harveys, naturally!) with many more bottled beers behind the bar. Make no mistake about it, half the village now come here and its no suprise why! the beers average at around a reasonable £2.90 for the average beer. Remember though that prices will vary according to strength (ABV) but that's how most pubs operate.

Foodwise The Two Brewers do a good menu at a reasonable price. The menu changes from time to time, of course and the food is cooked well. The best thing to do is ask at the bar of course!

All in all The Two Brewers is a well run pub, with Chris and Sue running a tight ship. I can see this being the busiest pub in Hadlow for a long while to come!

The Royal George - Greenwich

2 Blissett Street, Greenwich, London SE10 8UP

08.02.2010

I hate to say but The George has now closed it's doors for good. It has been reported in the CAMRA publication. Sad news to hear, i do hope someone takes this lovely place over and keeps up the good work. However it looks like the George will be turned into flats :( RIP thw George

Warwick Arms - Maldon

185 High Street, Maldon, Essex CM9 5BU

05.06.2009

This is definately one of my fav pubs in Maldon. Having gone there a few years back for the first time since the refurb i was a little shocked (pleasantly, mind you). the decor is modern but soft- best viewed at night and is rather pleasing to the eye. Ray and co do a brilliant job of serving the beers and keeping the place tidy. during the day the Warwick is kind of a chill out bar, you know, some where to escape the trials of modern day living. the night time is the best time to go as the place transforms into a hub for all the locals (young and old) to come in and have a catch up with each other. Weekends the Warwick does music. for those dates you will just have to ask them yourself!. as you can tell i love the place, and so will you

Maldon District Council - Maldon

Princes Road, Maldon, Essex CM9 5DL

05.06.2009

I have to say i think Maldon council are very good at what they do. promenade park, for example is always clean. having worked down there at the summer i recently witnessed the arcades being torn down, and the splash park being born. all the time that there was building work they always made sure the place was tidy and safe. didnt take the coucil long to finish it either. as you walk around Maldon itself you will notice just how clean the place is- road works are few and far between.overall one of the better councils around

The Oak House - Maldon

High Street, Maldon, Essex CM9 4PY

05.06.2009

it ok, i suppose. having gone there during the evening i thought the place lacked atmosphere. its nice and clean though, with friendly and helpful staff. reckon i shall be sticking with the local boozers though

Tate Modern - Southwark

Bankside, Southwark, London SE1 9TG

09.01.2009

I am not an art lover, but decided to give the Tate Modern a go. The one thing that suprised me was the sheer size of it- there is me thinking its just the old power station. How wrong could i get- the place is one gigantic maze!. I have to admit some of the art was actually very cleverly put together, and some was just, um, tat! lol. i noticed there was a cafe and bar, but decided that i didnt want to pay top dollar for a mug of tea! i’ll definately be going back again- sohuld be interesting to see how the place changes from time to time

knibbd You could have told us what’s on display at the moment! Hehehehehe

Bunch Of Grapes - London Bridge

2 St Thomas Street, London Bridge, London SE1 9RS

09.01.2009

On a recent walk around central london i was suprised to see just how many Youngs pub there were- i was determined to find a pub near to London Bridge rail station. This is where i found The Bunch of Grapes. Very clean on the outside, and looks like your typical Youngs pub (no bad thing, i might add!). On walking through the door you notice just how similar to other Youngs pubs this is- quite small, and nicely decorated. Needless to say it was rather busy. I went up ti the bar, and was happy to see Winter Warmer on!. One thing i always do is watch the staff as they pour the pint, and it has to be said, the staff here know how to pour a pint!. i Didn’t have to wait to long either, and was acknowledged as soon as i got to the bar. There is an upstairs restaraunt, although i have yet to try it. The toilets were very clean and well maintained. Overall i rate it top- prices are about £3.15 a pint, but lets face it, this is london. it’s more expensive near the tate modern!

Matalan - Lewisham

Thurston Road, Loampit Vale, London SE13 7SN

09.12.2008

i last shopped at Matalan, and thought they were absolutely awful. However i have had to have a change of heart- they were the only people to actually have gotten what i wanted! (trousers for 12 pounds, and two shirts with tie also for 12 pounds- dec 08). Matalan have changed quite a lot since they first set out- mainly due to the discount stores popping up left right and centre!. this store, though, is a decent one- the idea of having a sample rack of shirts to try is bloody genius!!, no other store has thought of this- how many times have you walken into a store, just to walk out angry and frustrated? me, quite a few. Matalan are different- for a start they don’t have clothes lying all over the floor, or in a sorry heap on some grotty looking table. what they do have is clothes that are actually placed where you would expect (i.e trousers not near the short sleeved shirt section!!!) all the items are in one place so you can find them. i never normally say this- but i actually find shopping at Matalan pleasant. The staff are very helpful and friendly as well- i never found asking them a question a chore, as a matter of fact they went out of their way to help me! the stores are nice and clean and airy- unlike some shops i have been to. The prices are actually quite pleasing- hell, you can get a tailor made suit for under 50 quid! hows that for a bargain. All in all a good experience- i will definately be going to Matalan again

Greenwich Kebab House - Maze Hill

71 Trafalgar Road, Greenwich, London SE10 9TS

25.11.2008

royt- i keep saying how good this place is, so why don’t i do a review? well, i am now!
Greenwich kebab house is open till roughly 3 am, or was when i went there last. my first thought was the look- you know, that look that says we don’t try too hard, so i was a bit sceptical. however after going in and looking at the not so bad prices, i got hungry (typical of me, really!!) so i decided to have something- a kebab. i expected something greasy, but was very pleasantly suprised, as it wasn’t at all greasy, and there was plenty of veg!. the staff are just brilliant- they know how to keep a drunk like me entertained!. This is one of those must see places- good food good prices, and great staff!

Spitalfields Market - City of London

65 Old Spitalfields Market, brick lane, London E1 6EW

25.11.2008

although it is well known, i wouldn’t make a point of going there for what they sell- which is not much! its all a little tacky for my liking. the one thing i do like, however, is the food adn drink- quite adventurous you might say! the jacket potatoe stall is good- try it!
