We had dinner in the Hotel restaurant. It's pretty pricey, but the quality of the food is first rate. I had a smoked trout salad followed by steak and it was delicious. The portion size was fine and the bottle of house red was also very good indeed.
The interior décor was fine on a dark late winter's evening but I reckon it would be a bit dingy during daylight hours or in the summer. A bit self-consciously trendy for my taste but that's a personal opinion. All black and purple crushed velvet, a bit goth.
The service was terrible. We had drinks in the bar first and told them we were having dinner. They brought menus and that was it. No taking our order and then coming through to tell us our food was ready in the way that most quality restaurants do. Half an hour late we finally went in to dinner and then had to wait another 20 minutes or so for the meal. Our waiter was ok if a bit dour. They menu's were mixed up with earlier menus so my first choice wasn't available. We ordered a bottle of wine with one waitress that never turned up and then ordered again with the wine waiter who to be fair was excellent.
5 stars for food quality, 3 stars for surroundings, 1 star for service.

We needed a couple of small jobs doing on our house, mostly snow damage. They came round straight away, gave me a price and fixed it there and then. What more can I say, almost unheard of in a tradesman. I thought they were great.

A good local tradesman. We had them out to fix a problem with our RCB and it took the guy ages to track down the problem, but he sorted it eventually. We have also had them out to get power to an outhouse and they did an excellent job at a reasonable price. The only reason I didnt give them 4 stars is they are a bit slow in responding to enquiries.

Excellent timber merchants. Ordered from them a couple of times and they are friendly and don't treat you like an idiot just because you are not "in the trade" shop a bit on the pithy side. Leave them a cutting list, and within a few days you're sorted

Eaten here a couple of times and it has had it's ups and down. Generally pretty good, excellent value for money. I particularly like the pizza which are excellent and authentic Italian but have been disappointed by the risotto. It can get very busy in the summer which means the service is a bit slow and it can be difficult to get in at times. Still pretty good and a great deal better than Piccolinos up the road

Superb meal, amazing surroundings, friendly service. About the only thing I could fault was the lighting which was a bit dim for my middle aged eyesight.
I had the lamb as a main course and it was cooked to perfection for my taste, not too rare, not too well done. I believe the chef is Indian and I was very tempted by some of the more Indian dishes. There was a vegetarian in our party and they had plenty of choice.
We went mid week so it wasn't busy but we have tried just turning up for lunch at the weekend and we couldnt get in because it was full so it is advisable to book ahead.
It was a special occasion so we pushed the boat out a bit, but 3 people, 3 courses, a bottle of wine and a pint of beer came to just over £100 which I thought was very reasonable

This place is amazing, expert staff huge range, local produce. Going in around Christmas is especially as the place is knee deep in stilton! If you love cheese and live anywhere near you should go and visit this foodie mecca.

Things have gone downhill quite a bit since the place was taken over by Wyevale. Still the best garden centre around however, their garden club deals are quite good

Awful
Our conservatory is 10 years old. Virtually every single panel of glass has failed getting moisture in between the panes of glass over that 10 years, some of them twice.
we have claimed on warranty for every panel except the last batch of failures because we are now out of warranty.
Getting any action out of their customer service department has been sometimes impossible although that has improved a little bit over the 10 year litany of problems we have had. At one stage we resorted to calling in trading standards.
How they have a reputation as market leader escapes me.
Our conservatory needs re-painting after 10 years, which is fair enough I guess. The paint from Amdega is £70 a tin!
