Cats Cafe - Totnes

High Street, Totnes, Devon TQ9

08.06.2013

I have only visited briefly but this is a great idea: I will amplify this review after a
second visit.
Based on clinical evidence that loving contact with cats can be greatly therapeutic
for humans, this place came into being. Visitors spend quality time with the team
of professional cats in a therapy lounge & have light refreshments at the same time.

Ten miles away at Sealhayne ,Newton Abbot, is the Sirona Centre for Equine Therapy
where troubled adolescents learn an inner peace being around horses.

Paddington Station - Paddington

Praed Street, Paddington, London W2 1HR

24.09.2011 (aktualisiert am 06.06.2013)

My favourite station designed by Brunel : look at the lovely arches recently restored to their former glory.
I love this place as it is the gateway to the SouthWest,Devon & Cornwall where you can find more of Brunel’s work : the bridge into Cornwall being the best example.
The womens’ toilet on the station costs 30p : shocking

Torquay Cemetery - Torquay

Hele Road, Torquay

13.05.2013 (aktualisiert am 06.06.2013)

It is the old cemetery that is worth a visit
there are two graves worthy of note, the first
is the Singer Mausoleum. Considering Isaac Singer
(he of Singer Sewing machine fame)
had 22 children and died worth several billion, it
is a modest tomb. (see my photo)

The second is that of Skene Craig - one of the
Founders of Melbourne in the State of Victoria
Austrralia, who was the first postmaster general &
who planted the first vines there. He married
Frances Zenobia St Aubyn of the family on St
Michael's Mount.(see my photo)

If you go to Oldway Mansion in Paignton (see
my review) afterwards, you can see the magnificent
Singer Family home being converted into luxury flats
(April 2013) but hurry, it will soon be locked off to the
public

Prince Of Wales - Covent Garden

150-51 Drury Lane, London WC2B 5TB

06.06.2013

Great pub, covered in flowers, in the heart of theatreland,
with a great history (see my photo of the plaque)
It is warm & cosy in winter & cool in the heat of summer.

My great great great grandmother,Rebecca, lived a few doors
away at 140 Drury Lane in 1862, so this is a special pub for me.
I like to imagine her husband,Joseph Green,a cabinet maker,
drank in here in those days too.

Balti King - Totnes

5 5 Ticklemore Street, Ticklemore Street, Totnes, Devon TQ9 5EJ

24.03.2013 (aktualisiert am 31.03.2013)

I have been going to Balti King for a while. Then after a period of 20 years away
I returned It is in the heart of Totnes but will also deliver free to your home for
orders over £15. I like the tandoori dishes & the first time back,a Sunday, was a
special offer night of 2 for 1 main dishes, so I enjoyed tandoori chicken, tarka dahl,
pilau rice & a beer & at £12.40 a very good deal!
There are 20 starters & about 70 main dishes to choose from

My charming waiter on my first visit,Ahmed, & I talked about the upcoming Rabindranath
Tagore Festival at Dartington Hall at the end of June 27 - 30.
Tagore came from Ahmed's home of Bangladesh, so we had a lot to talk about.
The festival should be very exciting & you can come at the end of the day &
relax here with authentic food from Tagore's country.

On the second occasion there, however, I was overcharged, so I would urge you to
check your bill! It was also very cold in the downstairs seating area too. What a big
disappointment. Get a take away is now my advice.

Signal Box - Totnes

Station Road, Totnes Railway Station, Totnes, Devon TQ9 5JR

15.03.2013

I asked a local "where's best for breakfast in Totnes?" he
said without hesitating,The Signal Box on Totnes Station.
Good basic english breakfast for £4.95 with tea or coffee.
You can wait for your train going down to Plymouth and Cornwall
and on the cafe side they are heading to London & Birmingham
or further to Yorkshire & Scotland.
Toilets are situated on the station platforms

Harbour House Charity Arts & Yoga - Kingsbridge

The Promenade, Harbour House, Kingsbridge, Devon TQ7 1JD

16.02.2013 (aktualisiert am 12.03.2013)

Brilliant venue for classes of all kinds : from memoir writing,
to drawing to yoga. A lovely cafe. & all of it at reasonable
prices. Beautiful outdoor garden in the summer too. In the
heart of the special town that is Kingsbridge on the estuary.

The Champion - Fitzrovia

13 Wells Street, Fitzrovia, London W1T 3PA

10.03.2013 (aktualisiert am 12.03.2013)

Marvellous pub, for a marvellous area
The stained glass windows are exceptional & show champion english sportsmen

Musée d'Orsay - Saint Thomas d’Aquin

1 rue de la Légion d'Honneur, 75007 Paris

10.02.2013 (aktualisiert am 05.03.2013)

My favourite Museum in Paris
beautifully curated,not overly expensive
but do go at 10 when it opens : too many people!
I like the cafe too which is in the clock tower (see my
picture) What most people dont know is that when it was a station, it housed all the prisoners rescued from nazi Dachau (see the PLAQUE outside on the river frontage)
I like the death mask of Victor Hugo in there, & the art nouveau statues

Papa's Kitchen - Totnes

Market Square, Totnes, Devon TQ9

04.11.2012 (aktualisiert am 17.02.2013)

Every Saturday between 12 & 2 (or when the food runs out) this stall in the Market sells the best curries ever. They cost £3.50 each & there’s veggie, fish, beef & chicken Lots of food, hot & scrumptious
