This Italian restaurant in the heart of Shawlands is great for families and also for couples or those looiing for a ‘special night out’.There are two eating areas, upstairs as you enter is the more informal dining area, where kids are very welcome, while downstairs is the ‘a la carte’ restaurant, perfect for that special occasion,Upstairs there is a wide range if Italian dishes available and the portions are good value for money, my daughters favourite is thier home made four cheeses pasta, while my sons enjoy the large pizza selection,it is one of the few places we all always enjoy, the staff are friendly and helpful and prices are reasonable.Their desserts are fantastic too!
Downstairs the menu is more extensive and their fish courses are great, they stilloffer pasta and pizza dishes if you prefer, booking is advisable for this part of the restaurant, especially on weekends
With street parking outside and bus stops near by it is an ideal place for a relaxing night out

This dog-friendly centre provides everything a dog and its owner can think off,the biggest attraction for owners is the dogwash-ideal to clean muddy dogs after walks in the local parks.everything is provided, including apron for the owner to avoid getting soaked, if help is needed then friendly staff are always available. There are also dog classes run from basic obedience classes to agility classes ( times vary) and there is a wide range of differnt dog foods available, staff are happy to discuss individual requirements with owners, a wide range of dog toys and designer clothes for the fashion conscious dog make this a doggy paradise
Linus This one is a bit of a stretch but I’m adding it to the ‘Punniest Places’ guide anyway!

This dine rjust 2 mins from Shawlands arcade is large, bright, and friendly, the owner and his staff are really nice and helpful. The menu is large and varied, with take away or sit in options, the only downside is it gets really busy at lunchtime with local schoolkids, but this is a sign of good cheap food.,homemade soupss, cakes, sandwiches are always available and can be tailored to exact needs. There is a range of daily newspapers provided

This privately run nursery offers care from 2years old in this building, but have another for babies and under 2’s in another part of the city. The staff here are all very friendly and skilled and kids are offered a load of different activities both in the nursery and on field trips- sometimes to nearby queens park, sometimes further away.Children play together most of the time but are put in age groups forcetain activities.Parents are reuired to supply all meals and snacks
the hours available are 8-6 mon -fri, which is strictly adhered to, if late to collect there are late charges imposed.
Easily accessible by car, train ( 9 mins to town from nearby station) and bus ( every 2-3 mins from nearby main road)
glendinningian Thiis review is untrue !!, meals and snacks are provided, the babies and under twos are cared for in another building adjacent to the main nursery building.

This small cafe dinerr is easliy missed but is well worth a visit, from the outside it loks tiny and possibly a bit dated, but inside the owner has done a good job, it is bright, clean and airy, the food is all home made and there are numerous offers each day,He also offers both large and small meals to suit different sized appetites, kids are made to feel welcome, although I didn’t notice any high chairs for younger kids, and there are stairs at the entrance so maybe not pram friendly.I would suggest avoiding the lunchtime rush if possible as he also does take away and delivery services for local businesses, and it can get extremely hectic. The prices are reasonable, variety fantastic, meal sizes great, when he is not busy the owner is always available for a chat and can give good info on local places
Queenspark - Glasgow
520 Langside Rd, Glasgow, Scotland G42 9QL
30.04.2008
This large park offers loads of activities for families,at the top of Victoria Rd-with loads of cafes and shops available, this park offers pitch and putt ( free) pond with swans/ducks and occasionally displays by model boat enthusiasts, several small play areas scattered throughout the park mean kids are never far from something to do, a walk up the hill to the glasshouse is worth it as there is a small animal world ( free entry) for kids to explore, and a small, free, soft play area for under 3s,costa coffee and snacks are available to sit indoors or oudoors, making this a good location whatever the weather, arts and crafts for primary kids are also available during holidays on a regular basis. A farmers market every two weeks is also an added attraction. The only down side is a lack of toilet facilities if out with young kids, the glasshouses offer the only facilities in a rather large park
Pollok Country Park - Glasgow
2060 Pollokshaws Rd, Glasgow, Scotland G43
30.04.2008
This park on glasgow’s south side recently won an award as best park, it is well deserved, there are acres of woodland, cyclepaths and walkways,The Burrell collection is here (free entry) and a new addition has been a playpark- for up to 12yrs in the Burrell car park area, a good ( but pricy) coffee shop offers a wide range of meals and pleasant views,5 mins walk away is Pollok House ( not free) with access to another coffe shop, with hme baking, and gift shop.Stables where children can touch Clydsdale horses, fields of Highland Cattle, large areas to play football, and generally walk around make this a brilliant place for family days out. For people with mobility problems there is a courtesy bus runs form the entrance to both Burrell and Pollok House. There is ample parking, some free, and there are good bus and train links within 5 mins of park entrance
Whale Of A Time - Glasgow

This indoor kids play area is a really good place for kids and parents alike, especially on wet days. A separate area for toddlers ensures that the younger kids are safe from the older ones running around. There is a good cafe offering a wide range of reasonably priced food and drink including home baking, newspapers/magazines are available for adults to enjoy while kids run around. Easy parking in nearby Shawlands arcade and good bus links make it easliy accessible for all.Good value ,fun way to tire the family out.Staff are always around to ensure no-one gets too rowdy or gets hurt, and are always cheerful and friendly
