Sushi Circle - Mitte

Französische Str. 48, 10117 Berlin

26.11.2011

this place is the worst combination: bad and expensive.

at least half of the dishes on the conveyor didn’t even have fish in them. out of the ones that did, at least half of those had mayo in them. hardly any variety in the fish that was actually there. the rolls and cuts of fish are small for the price you pay. and worse, they aren’t very good.

sushi circle has about 20 locations throughout germany, with 5 in berlin.

you know where they have no locations? dusseldorf. you know why? because they have a significant japanese population who would never be caught dead eating sushi here.

avoid at all costs, unless you’re not paying.

great falafel, fair prices. real lebanese food. this falafel snob is happy here. i have not found better in kreuzberg.

very nice staff as well.

Gemelli - Kreuzberg

Wrangelstr. 42, Eisdiele, 10997 Berlin

19.09.2010

gemelli serves some of the finest contemporary cuisine i've had the pleasure of eating in this city.

menus are changed every week. you can tell the chef really cares about food and presentation. while the prices are well above average, you really get what you pay for here. the food is delicious!

while they are known for having great ice cream, the bistro is very underrated. if you want some good food and can afford it, gemelli is highly recommended.

Hamy Cafe - Kreuzberg

Hasenheide 10, gegenüber von Bauhaus, 10967 Berlin

07.09.2010

WOW, i can't believe i waited so long to go here. this is the best vietnamese food i've had in the city so far.

as other people mentioned, there are only 2 main course choices per day and they are usually around 5 euro. the food is fantastic, full of flavor, the right amount of spice and fresh ingredients.

they have an open kitchen where you can see the gigantic pots of either dish, ready to be served fast. our food arrived in under 5 minutes. i even dropped my chopsticks and had a new pair appear in 10 seconds.

the staff was very nice and the cooks all seemed quite happy and joking with each other.

i will be back here all the time. it's very popular for a reason!

The Bird - Prenzlauer Berg

Am Falkplatz 5, Prenzlauer Berg, 10437 Berlin

07.09.2010

after years of avoiding it, i finally checked out the bird. worth the hype? yes and no. the burgers are really great. quite large and very good meat. messy as hell, like they should be. mine was very undercooked, however. ordered medium and got medium-rare.

with your burger, you get a HUGE side of fries. it will be a struggle for you to finish them all. and they're good too.

i can't say i like the idea of an english muffin for a bun. it's tiny compared to the meat inside.

the price is what will keep me away from going here more than a couple times a year. the food is very good quality, so i can't say it isn't worth it. however, i'm american and have a hard time justifying paying 11 euro for a burger (same as a vietnamese paying 6 euro for pho).

i will mostly be going to Hamburger Heaven for my burger fix, but The Bird is still worthy of praise. they're packed all the time too, so be prepared to wait.

Eat_Berlin yes, hamburger heaven is a good second.

Hamburger Heaven - Kreuzberg

Graefestraße 93, Kreuzberg, 10967 Berlin

30.06.2010 (aktualisiert am 22.08.2010)

1st rule: skip the regular burgers (while handmade, they sometimes freeze them. it's a gamble)

2nd rule: order either freiland or bio burger

3rd rule: enjoy what a real burger tastes like

that's right, berlin has finally got an AFFORDABLE quality burger joint!

they keep it simple, but they do it right.

hand formed unfrozen beef?
hand-cut fries?
homemade ketchup, mayo and honey-mustard?
real cheddar cheese? (other choices too)
even a decent bun?

and the best part? a freiland cheeseburger is 4.50 eur and bio burger is 5 eur.

i can't tell you how long i've been waiting for a place like this in berlin.

this is your basic american burger, but the point is that this is your basic AMERICAN burger. this place gets it right where all others have failed (unless you want to pay 9+ euro for it).

all burger fanatics, i suggest you run to Hamburger Heaven and satisfy your craving.

Hamburger Heaven, you have given me hope.

Eat_Berlin boah, ej - guuuuuutschweine. hoffentlich jips die noch im april......

Miyaki - Friedrichshain

Boxhagener Str. 121, Friedrichshain, 10245 Berlin

31.07.2010

there's a new kid on the block in friedrichshain, and it is a cut above the rest.

while you can't be lucky enough to have a japanese staff, there is no doubt that the vietnamese sushi chef here is passionate about sushi.

the soysauce is homemade, the rice is not refrigerated, and the seafood is fresh.

you aren't going to get any out of the ordinary seafood here, but for the standards, this place has taken the top spot for sushi in friedrichshain.

prices are very fair for the quality. i also tried the miso soup, which was excellent.

i've gone here a few times now (once with a japanese friend, who was also very surprised), and the owners are very nice. any time i want sushi in friedrichshain, this is where i'm going from now on.

nimchek Thanks for this great comment....!

very nice and english-speaking bike repair shop. i had a lot of work done at once and they had it all done in 4 hours!

highly recommended.

Isabel - Kreuzberg

very popular ice cream parlor near the admiralbreucke. there's a surprising amount of room inside to sit and eat, but it's often too hot in there on a summer day. the line often extends outside.

in addition to your normal scoops, they also offer sundaes and banana splits. all the flavors i tried were good, proving that the line isn't out the door just because of the location.

Ron Telesky Canadian Pizza - Kreuzberg

Dieffenbachstraße 62, 10967 Berlin

06.06.2010

i was impressed by the food here. i don't know if "canadian pizza" even exists, but the pizza here is quite good.

the sauce has a strong and tangy flavor, and slices are 3 euro. lots of cool topping combinations here, and both of my choices were delicious.

those who are looking for thicker american pizza should look elsewhere, as it's still very thin. don't let that scare you away though, you'll be missing out on a quality slice!

extra note: they have a&w root beer!

elenaccia canadian pizza?! omg.
