CurryOno - Mayfair

A great little Japanese curry restaurant in Brixton market (just off Coldharbour Lane, near Franco Manca). Very treaty curry, including Katsu Pork (my favourite) as well as chicken, beef, vegetable and non-curry options. Sells Asahi and Sapporo beer, as well as wine and sake. Very tasty food and friendly staff. Highly recommended!

The Prince is pretty nice, does pretty good food but would be vastly improved if: 1. The beer wasn't flat 2. The staff were more helpful and 3. It wasn't so damned expensive!

Bree Louise - Euston

69 Cobourg Street, Euston, London NW1 2HH

An Alladin's cave of tasty, tasty beer. Go for the one on hand-pump to avoid flat-ness. Can be a struggle to get a seat, but once you're installed you won't want to move all night. Staff are nice, people in there always seem happy and pleasant and it's so close to Euston. Great place, possible my favourite pub in London!

hootananny - Brixton

Effra Rod, Brixton, London SW2 1DF

A reliably mad place. Free to get in, usually, and excellent music on Fridays particularly. Drinks are a bit overpriced, but its generally worth it for the good atmosphere.

A couple of points:
1) Don't use the cloakroom, if you ever want to see your coat again (or in one piece)
2) Don't expect the bands to be on at the advertised time. A visit to the Hoot will take up your entire evening.

Good though. Had some amazing nights.

Ken's Fish Bar - Dulwich

131 Half Moon Lane, Dulwich, London SE24 9JY

Ken's is the best fish and chips takeaway in South London, possibly all London! Beats the pants off the award-winning Olly's, which is nearer Brockwell Park, because the chips are so good.

Yummy.

Great place! Enjoyed sitting here with a beer watching swing dancers.l Cosmopolitan and friendly, great atmosphere.

The Lido Cafe - Herne Hill

Dulwich Road, Brixton, London SE24 0PA

Really nice spot in Herne Hill, staffed with a nice bunch of people, the food is really good and the coffee is great too. The main problem is the prices (7 quid for Eggs Benedict) and the large amount of mums with babies in here during the daytime.

That said they do deals (beer and a burger on Wednesdays, 2-4-1 beer/wine on Friday and Saturday evenings) so there's cheaper options. Also they have live music/comedy nights which are highly recommended.

Standard Balti House - Whitechapel

71 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL

Does exactly what it says on the tin. If you’re looking for a standard curry for a standard price then this is certainly above average, and a lot better than a lot of the places on brick lane. That said, this is not the best curry house in London by some way.

Friendly staff though, solid portions and its clean and tidy.

Standard.

The Cavendish Arms - Stockwell

128 Hartington Rd., Stockwell, London SW8 2HJ

15.09.2009

Really pleasant little pub/venue tucked away out of sight in Stockwell. The staff are very friendly, the lounge room is comfortable and the venue room (aka 'The Ballroom’) has great sounds and is well equipped.

Food is basic but tasty and of the pie and chips variety.

Well worth a look!

The Half Moon Pub - Herne Hill

10 Half Moon Lane, Herne Hill, London SE24 9LR

Very nice boozer. Friendly locals, good prices (especially on wine) and a good 2-4-1 deal on the very tasty home-made pizzas every Monday evening. Open Mic every tuesday!
