merchant chippy - Glasgow

155 High Street, Merchany City, Glasgow, Scotland G1 1PH

15.11.2012

At last, finally a chippy in this part of the town that offers a great selection of food cooked fresh at reasonable prices. If you don't like deep fried food there is also a selection of pastas.
There is always customers in no matter what time of the day, you can also eat your food inside or outside (weather permitting) and you get served quickly.
The staff are friendly and this place is just across from Aldi on the High Street.
To be honest chippy food is not my thing and its all fried in palm oil which if I'm going to indulge in deep fried food i would prefer beef dripping, but thats just me!

Ingram Wynd - Glasgow

58 Ingram Street, Glasgow, Scotland G1 1EX

21.05.2012

I have eaten here a few times now. The last time was on a 5pm deal which allowed us 2xcourses and a bottle of wine for £22. I expected tiny portions and compromised service as when you are on a "deal" this can often be the case...Wrong, the service was excellent very friendly staff who were on hand but not in your face, the food was supberb hubby had haggis tower for starts then a steak which came with fresh chips and mushrooms with a lovely sauce, I had soup of the day which arrived with a basket of bread enough for the 2 of us to share, I had salmon which came with a huge portion of mash and some roasted veg with a wee bit of colcanon, lovely! we left room for a desert...the homemade bakewell tart! Yum, hubby had a pint of Peroni, only 2 draught lagers on offer but the usual bottles etc. The wine list is varied and they have a cocktail list which looks tempting.
The restraurant is Victorian in decor with a Scottish flair, if you are booking ask for a booth as they are lovely and cosy, there are 2 larger booths for say parties of 6 or more.
The pre-theatre is great value at £12.95 for 2 courses, they do afternoon teas and have just recently opened a beer garden/terrace area.
I would give it a try for sure but i would suggest booking in advance as it gets busy, check the website for menus...

Merchant City Post Office - Glasgow

59 Glassford Street, Glasgow, Scotland G1 1UG

14.01.2011 (aktualisiert am 16.03.2012)

I visited Febuary 2012 and found a big improvement with the staff, they seem to have got rid of a lot of the moaning minnies APART from the sour faced American girl, i have never seen anyone so miserable and downright rude. Wonder what charm school she went to?

Jeez, this place is worth a visit just for the novelty value!
The queue is usually out the door.
70% of People in the queue reek of booze/b.o./fish/and have scalp problems.
You have to hold your stomach in to work your way through.
The person behind you always stands too close and clearly washes in t.c.p.
When you make it to the mecca of the desks you get grunted at
They never have enough staff
I have heard arguments that customers were overcharged
The staff look like they need medication or are clearly taking too much
The addresses are never verified
However the post usually gets there

The shop up front has a variety of booze which included buckfast, lambrini, maddog, super T’s etc, which might well help you get over your visit!
It’s like being in a nightmare but having the smells!
Wee tip,,, Saturdays are usually dead, so do your post then and save precious moments not having to endure the madness.

Paula74 Paula here. . How’s you gingerPersian? Read that. . It really made my day. Laughed so much. It seems there are people like that all over!! I have the most cockly stomach. . I can’t stand smells b.o. etc. . Yuk!!! How can people be like that I CAN’T imagine. It takes all sorts to make the world go round Though. .

gingerpersian Glad it gave you a chuckle! Well it certainly brightens up your day whilst you wait to return that ASOS parcel!

Mr Singh's India - Glasgow

149 Elderslie Street, Glasgow, Scotland G3 7AW

12.10.2011

Well if only I had checked the other reviews! They were spot on.
We decided to give it a try after buying a deal on “Itison”, we left it a month before booking it and even from the booking ( hello, miserable guy on phone, drops something and he’s effing and blinding to himself) and of course when we arrived there was no sign of the booking.
After being seated they had no idea we were on a deal even though the manager took the voucher from me when we arrived.
The popodums were stale and as for the mixed platter… mum’s gone to Iceworld, the quality of the chicken was dire, my dog gets better cuts.
The mains were ok, with the naan bread being the best thing about it.
Irn-bru was warm, the tables were like a school canteen and the overall decor looked really dated and tired, staff can be either full on or ignore you.
Making staff wear kilts is one thing, but one poor boy’s kilt hung off him and was sweeping the floor at the same time.
When we asked for the bill it was wrong…it did get quickly rectified, however at this stage i wished i hadn’t bothered.
Plenty better Indian’s in Glasgow, the framed pictures at the door with gazza and Henrik (with dreads) did give me a chuckle.

duhdave Ohh, that place sounds horrible..

gingerpersian I guess they are still trading on their reputation from the 1980’s…..

Mcdonalds Bakery - Glasgow

121 Argyle Street, Glasgow, Scotland G2 8DL

02.08.2011

You can’t beat this bakery for their lovely fresh morning rolls with various fillings, they are made daily and are so much nicer than Greggs offerings.
If you pass early enough you can get a selection of bacon, square sausage etc.
Staff are friendly, the cakes are lovely, haven’t tried the cafe but it is always busy so nuff said.

savers - Glasgow

155 Trongate, Glasgow, Scotland G1 5HF

24.06.2011

A good allround place that well can certainly "save" you money.
Delights include pombear crisps, yazoo's, smokers mouthwash and dogpoo bags for £1.

Staff are nice enough and pack your bag for you, although the management should stop getting them to ask you for mobile phone topup's and wait for it..... "Collen Rooney" perfume!!!!

Winners Chinese Carry Out - Glasgow

590 London Road, Glasgow, Scotland G40 1DZ

03.05.2011

This is near the Bridgeton end of London road and to be honest is a decent take-a-way.

I have never felt dodgy after eating anything in hear and the portion sizes are decent.

They throw in free prawn crackers with 2 meals and if you order a starter they usually throw in free prawn toast or spring rolls which have "Free" written in black inky pen on the lid.

Peckham's - Glasgow

61-65 Glassford Street, Glasgow, Scotland G1 1UZ

28.01.2011

Think they are "of the moment" but the fascist guy at the till wouldn't let me bring my small dog in!
We were heading downstairs to peruse their overpriced booze, so headed elsewhere.
On the positive side and sans doggy, they do stock a great range of booze and their house champagne is lovely.
Haven't tried the cafe so can't comment on that side, however The Brunswick have no problems with doggies and even provide water/chicken if required, and it's just such a great atmosphere!

Box Of Delights - Glasgow

127 Candleriggs, Glasgow, Scotland G1 1NP

28.01.2011

Great deli with lovely fresh made rolls to order, loving the huge crossaint's filled with ham and coleslaw.
Also a small but good booze selection.
Loving the Freddo Frog ceramic jars!

The Country Shop - Glasgow

225 High Street, Glasgow, Scotland G1 1PP

28.01.2011

Great butchers, amazing steak-pies, the queue was out the door on hogmanay and I even seen the postman waiting for his steak pie!
The bacon is lovely and they are happy to help with cuts of steak, portion sizes and for numpties like me who have bought meat in a packet for years with instructions on the back,....best way to cook!
Not the cheapest but the quality is supberb, these guys stock some hotels/restaurants.
They throw in nice touches like free fresh gravy with the beef olives etc, and are always happy to give you a wee bone away for the dog.
Try grilling the bacon with a morning roll with their tattie scones mmmm best way to chase a hangover away.
