The Mousehole - Cheddar

The Cliffs, Cheddar, Somerset BS27 3QA

10.06.2012

Nice cafe in Cheddar, seems to be family-run and service was very friendly. Not the best pasty I've ever had, but did the job! Shame it wasn't sunnier when we were there, would have been nice to sit outside.

bexb-d I think we need to just assume that this summer’s not going to be sunny..boo

The Goldsmith - Southwark

96 Southwark Bridge Road, London SE1 0EF

10.06.2012

Great neighbourhood pub in Southwark, and downstairs was very popular. They do a good range of food and my pad thai was HUGE and delicious. Seems to be a strange, unused room upstairs when I had a nose! Our visit was slightly tainted by a really loud, drunken group, but the service was great and they knew their stuff. Would definitely go back.

Market - Bath

Saw Close, Bath BA1 1EY

10.06.2012

I'd love to give Market more than three stars but we had a bad experience when ordering food here. Despite giving them our table number, they claimed that our pizza was 'claimed by another group', so our food never showed up. We got a free pint for our troubles, but only when we asked for it!

Still, we had a nice time sat outside in the sun. There is lots of outdoor seating and it's a nice little corner of the city, right opposite the theatre.

A nice, diverse mix of customers - from students to families - and great deal on the pizza, which was - when it eventually arrived - delicious.

Puccini - Roath

120 Albany Road, Roath, Cardiff, Wales CF24 3RU

10.06.2012

Nice little Italian / tapas place in the Roath area of Cardiff. We were the only customers on a Wednesday lunchtime, but the food was nice and we took advantage of a good lunchtime deal.

Taste Card deal available on evenings only.

Terra Nova - Cardiff

Unit 9a Mermaid Quay, Cardiff, Wales CF10 5BZ

10.06.2012

I actually wasn't blown away by Terra Nova, drinks were ridiculously expensive and there was lots of birds mess on some of the outside areas (not to be helped by its bayside location, I guess!).

That said, it's a huge and impressive place, and you can sit on the balcony and look over the bay. Just take a cardie, as the outdoor seating doesn't get any sunlight.

Drink, Shop & Dance - Kings Cross

9 Caledonian Road, London N1 9DX

10.06.2012

The relatively newly-opened Drink Shop and Dance is directly underneath the wonderful Drink Shop and Do, and it does what it says on the tin.

It's much, MUCH darker down here, with decanters filled with candles providing most of the light.

I had a great evening here recently at its Early Doors Disco club night, though it was a tiny bit on the cold side (air con).

They serve food down here too though, and I'd never thought I'd say this as I like low lighting, but perhaps a little too dark to see what you're eating properly!

But despite that very tiny quibble, it's a fantastic place and you're more likely to get a seat down here than upstairs, which is now incredibly popular.

The Pelton Arms - East Greenwich

23-25 Pelton Road, Greenwich, London SE10 9PQ

10.06.2012

Greenwich isn't short on pubs, let's be honest, but frequently they can be teeming with tourists. To get away from the crowds I love this pub along the river in the east of Greenwich - a gorgeous local pub serving comforting food at decent prices, with squidgy sofas, lovely fireplaces, a wide range of ales and wines and some great pub games.

VOC - Kings Cross

2 Varnishers Yard, Regent's Quarter, London N1 9AW

10.06.2012

I've worked in King's Cross for a few years now, and I've known this tiny bar in the Regents Quarter 'zone' to have undergone at least a couple of makeovers in that time. Its previous incarnation was as 'Cellar N1', a nice enough little cocktail bar, which sadly never really found its feet.

The latest occupant - and let's hope it's here to stay - is this bar which describes itself as a modern day interpretation of a 17th Century Punch House. VOC seems to be establishing itself quite nicely, and my apothecary-style bottle filled with a 'raspberry shrub' cocktail (apparently 'bottle matured' for at least 7 days) went down very nicely (and easily) indeed.

Elliot's Cafe - Southwark

12 Stoney Street, London SE1 9AD

20.05.2012

I was expecting big things given how people rave about Eillots online but to be honest I wasn't blown away. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived and there wasn't really anywhere for us to wait (presumably so they can fit in as many tables as possible). The food was fine, but I think the fact that I can't really remember what I had speaks volumes - apart from the fact that I was paying more than I wanted to. That said there was a good atmosphere and it was certainly busy.

Ravensbourne Arms - Lewisham

323 Lewisham High Street, London SE13 6NR

20.05.2012

Another great new(ish) local(ish) pub! Owned by the Antic crew, you kind of know what to expect. But this pub honestly has it all - darts board, bar billiards, loads of space, squidgy sofas, a telly for the football and a great menu of pub grub that won't break the bank. Yes, it's a little rough around the edges, and the toilets could do with a spruce up, but you can't help but relax and have fun in here. Have just removed a star for quite slow service one Sunday when we came here for a roast.
