I stayed in the Mercure Brigstow last December, and thought it was a great place to stay. Its very central, so fantastic if you are going out and want to explore the city.
The hotel is described as a boutique style, which was nice enough. The room wasn’t especially clean (the obvious things were clean, but things like shelves in the wardrobe, on the floor near the bed, etc were not)
The bathroom had a (very) small TV built into the wall above the taps in the bath. I was far too excited.
The price was reasonable if booked in advance and through one of their usual deals - I think it was £59 for one night and £69 for the second.

I stayed in this hotel last July, after finding a cheap deal on their website (I think it was £69 per night, instead of £120)
The room was very clean, and quite comfortable. It was a basic type of room, which I don’t think would be worth the full price to be honest. The TV had a cable to plug my iPod into, and because there were speakers in the bathroom, I could listen to my music in the bath.

I was another lucky winner of a pair of tickets from iTunes - I saw McFLY (for my friend, honest) and really loved the venue. Its small and intimate, but even though the gig was being filmed and broadcast to Vue cinemas, it didn’t feel crowded.
Its a beautiful building, and in a great location.
The only “problem” I would say there was is that the prices of drinks were just mad - £9 for a pint and a Malibu and coke?
(I’m from the north, thats a round of drinks, not two!)

I’ve stayed at this hotel a few times when I have been to Utrecht, and each time I have a excellent stay. It is about a 10-15 minute walk from the centre of Utrecht, and has some great facilities on site, including a bowling alley, an awesome restaurant and the usual swimming pool/sauna type things.
I have visited the hotel both before and after the renovations, and am impressed with what they have done with the place.
Breakfast is especially amazing, I’m used to “continental” breakfasts in UK hotels, but the Hotel Mitland has everything you could possibly want for breakfast available!

The pub has recently been taken over, with the landlady hoping to make it into quite a popular venue for live rock music.
The pub itself is very large, and has a garden area at the back. There is a carvery on a Sunday which is very popular. There is normally a band on every Saturday night, and is very biker friendly.

(I may be slightly biased as my dad and his wife have just taken over this pub! )

The Corrie Tap has a bit of a reputation for selling Exhibition Cider - possibly one of the nicest ciders available, and one of the most sneakily alcoholic! (Tastes just like normal apple juice, until you fall over drunk!)
Its quite a small venue, which is a shame, as it certainly can get busy enough (especially on Wednesday nights for students iirc!)
Definitely somewhere I take people to who don’t normally like cider because Exhibition can convert most people!

I have only ever used Yum Yum’s to order in from - so can’t really comment about the service in the shop.
Yum Yum’s have three menus really - a standard cold one (sandwiches, wraps, etc), a standard hot one (hot sandwiches, burgers, etc) and a specials menu, which is emailed around each morning around 9am. I normally ordered off the specials menu - not because the hot and cold ones were rubbish, but Fred’s (I assume the owner!) little comments about each item were just great and made you want your lunch before half 9.
(Fred’s comments were often the highlight of the first hour at work!)
The food was always very good from there, although slightly more expensive (iirc) than their competitors.
Yum Yum’s also do amazing sausage butties, perfect for a Friday morning (or any morning after the night before!)

Ah, Doorsteps. When I worked in Chester, I was based on the Business Park in a small company that didn’t have catering facilities - just a rather well furnished kitchen. If you didn’t bring your own food, there were not many companies to choose from to order in from. Doorsteps was one of the few companies we regularly ordered from.
Their sandwiches are so good - the baguettes are much more delicious than anything Subway (etc) produce, and are normally cheaper. They are mainly a sandwich company, but do also sell jacket potatos (etc).
Doorsteps also can provide buffet platters for events - I have never had one myself, but others have said how good they were

The cafe on the piazza (also affectionatly known by my friends and I as “Cafe Perv” due to the huge glass windows perfect for people watching!) is my favourite place on campus to get some lunch. As mentioned, the large glass front means you are able to get some good people watching in before a lecture. The service was always quite quick, and the food was delicious, and seemed to be better than the food available upstairs in the other cafe.

Blue Creek Cafe is very dangerous. Dangerous for the student overdraft. Its a great cafe, which sells pretty awesome food, but the prices are slightly higher than most places in town. It also has a large selection of cakes, which are dangerous for your waistline!
I spent a lot of my time in Aberystwyth, and no trip back to Aber is complete with a trip to Blue Creek.
