Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem - Nottingham

1 Brewhouse Yard, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire NG1 6AD

01.06.2009

A very cool pub, On the good beer guide lists and with its own brand of beer. Food that aint bad and a nice (and spacious) outdoor area. One of the oldest pubs in Brittain (shares the claim with about 15 others as being THE oldest) it is built straight into the rock of the mound that the castle used to be on. How many other places can you have a pint in a cave? The prices are middling to high and the toilets should be avoided if at all possible but the atmosphere makes up for it all by far.

Central Pier - Blackpool

Promenade, Blackpool FY1 5BD

01.06.2009

I love Central Pier. Sure, it’s tacky and full of pushy games masters and the ferris wheel looks for all the world as if its about to come unhooked and go rolling away, but it’s a true seaside place, where childrens memories are made, and you’ll always remember looking out at the immense blue from what seemed like miles up, even though it was only about 100 feet. There are waltzers and dodgems and all manner of sticky sugary foods, a couple of bars and even a theatre at the end. A great place for a wander, a mess on the slot machines and home.

Premier Bowl - Blackpool

277-279 Central Drive, Blackpool FY1 5HZ

WARNING THIS IS NO LONGER HERE IT HAS BEEN DMOLISHED TO MAKE WAY FOR A NEW EDUCATION CENTRE. PLEASE DON’T GO LOOKING FOR IT YOU WILL FIND A PATCH OF HANDILY CLEARED RUBBLE AND NOTHING MORE.

The Flamingo - Blackpool

44 Queen Street, The Flamingo, Blackpool FY1 2AY

01.06.2009

Blackpools biggest gay bar, a multi-sound, multi-roomed former cinema with stunning staff and a light up dancefloor from the future. A friendly place, the people there are charming and there is always someone to dance with. The drinks cost more than the moon, though, which can mean an expensive night out if you’re going to do the warm work of dancing. There are some fantastic DJs, some regulars, some guest, all with a great sense of humour and decent taste in music. A good place to come if you want to feel safe, comfortable and have a great night.

Grundy Art Gallery - Blackpool

Queen Street, Blackpool FY1 1PX

01.06.2009

A small art gallery in Blackpool town centre, attached to the Central Library. Most of the time it’s free entry, though there is a donation box, and sometimes when there is a more famous artist I have known there to be a small charge. Four display spaces that usually have resonable local art on display but sometimes branch out into more exotic displays. Some artworks for sale, and a few peices of beautiful handmade jewellery for purchase also. Displays change often so well worth dropping in fairly regularly.

Page 45 - Nottingham

An absolutely fantastic comic shop, fulfilling all your geeky needs. A brilliant collection of serial style comics and collected graphic novels, staff members who are helpfull and pretty much always know what on earth you’re on about. With everything from your Marvels and DCs to your Indie faves and web comic releases they have it all. Most importantly of all there is an excellent selection of Neil Gaiman stuff and quite regularly art based things by Dave McKean.
A must visit for any self respecting fan of comics and geek goods. (I also recommend joining their mailing list for monthly updates on new releases, which features reviews of all the best titles coming out or being re-released/re-packaged.)

The Secret Garden - Blackpool

9 Cedar Square, Blackpool FY1 1BP

31.05.2009

A beautiful shop, full of mythical beings, faries, pixies, dragons, imps, unicorns, gargoyles and lots more. Books, soaps, bath bombs, herbs, spells, gems, incense, perfume, reed diffusers, and even a tutu or two. A good place to stock up on certain spell components and a lovely place to find some truly natural products for your home. Theres a lot of handmade jewellery that can be expensive but really is stunning, and even the odd bit of furniture that has been lovingly made from natural sources. A must visit shop for anyone visiting Blackpool.

West Coast Rock Cafe - Blackpool

5-7 Abingdon Street, Blackpool FY1 1DH

31.05.2009

Through a tiny doorway, a wonder awaits, full of tasty american and mexican foodstuffs! West coast is a brilliant place, with friendly staff, gorgeous mozzerrrrrrella sticks and the nicest fajitas I’ve ever eaten in a resturaunt setting. Lovely milkshakes for anyone who doesn’t drink, and theres even a nightclub upstairs from it so you can go and dance, and music vidos playing to entertain you while you eat. A little pricey, nut the food is good, so its worth it. Open extremely late too, for you night types. Definitely worth dropping in.

Odeon Blackpool - Blackpool

Rigby Road, Blackpool FY1 5EP

31.05.2009

A large well equipped multi-screen cinema with a large selection of films, a mother and baby screening, a directors chair screeningthe latest highbrow, a senior section with free cups of tea, a 3D cinema screen, a Ben and Jerrys shop (huzzah!) and all the sweets, nachos, hot dogs, ice blasts, popcorn and other cinema munchy treats you could want. Munchies, naturally, cost an abysmal amount, you may want to buy them at the paper shop and bring them with you, and remember to bring a student ID if you are lucky enough to have one for a discount.

Wannee Wah Wah's - Blackpool

55-57 Topping Street, Blackpool FY1 3AF

31.05.2009

A fantastic menu with a brilliant range of oriental meals, chinese, thai and japanese foods, a good range of drinks and a really nice atmosphere. Will cater for big groups without bookings if they have space and the staff are always polite and helpful and more than willing to explain what is in a dish if you are uncertain about flavours. Vegetarian options available, and banquets to choose from if you just fancy making the one choice, and even a little group of pretty mouth cooling desserts for chilli fiends. Beautiful surroundings, nice music, all round good start to a night out.
