Chaeddar Crazy Golf - Cheddar

7 Queens Row, The Cliffs, Cheddar, Somerset BS27 3QE

18.11.2008

Hidden amongst the mainly tat at Cheddar Gorge is the little crazy golf course. Cheap and cheerful yes but an hour or so of pure fun. My teenage son cheated throughout but yes we did laugh!

English Heritage: Carisbrooke Castle - Newport

English Heritage: Carisbrooke Castle, Newport, Isle of Wight PO30 1XY

Kids love this place. A castle and donkeys! Full of history and more than just ruins. Lovely grounds for picnics. Donkeys work an ancient water wheel and of course spend time with the children. Great facilities, great staff.

Thermae Bath Spa - Bath

Hetling Pump Room, Hot Bath Street, Bath BA1 1SJ

18.11.2008

What can i say? Pure bliss. You just have to try the rooftop pool which is just heaven on earth. Not snobby nor costly. Both tourists and locals. Steam rooms are amazing with different aromas. Try the taster 2 hour session. Tip - take your robe, slippers and towel to keep the cost down.

English Heritage: Nunney Castle - Nunney

Church Street, Nunney, Frome, Somerset BA11 4LW

18.11.2008

Sweet little castle ruins enclosed by a moat. No facilities but lovely for a short trip and a picnic. Fishing was happening! Interpretation boards explain some ofthe history. The church close by is worth a visit.

Farleigh Hungerford Castle and Chapel - Farleigh Hungerford

Farleigh Hungerford, Bath BA2 7RS

Even my teenage son loved this place. Although mostly ruins, children can still run around its walls pretendng to be knights. Up and down the moat went my rather large teenage son! Steeped in history this castle still is a great afternoon out. Use the audio tour to understand the history. The church remains which has some of the best preserved medieval wall paintings. Well worth a visit.

Audley End House & Gardens - Saffron Walden

Saffron Walden, Essex CB11 4JF

18.11.2008

I have loved this house since I was a child. In recent years it was starting to show its age but English Heritage are ploughing money back into his historic house. There are new interative exhibitions where you can see live in the kitchens with the servants. There are plenty of special events. The gardens and grounds are always worth a visit.

Gwydir Castle - Llanrwst

Gwydir Castle, Llanrwst, Wales LL26 0PN

Visit this amazing place. Lovingly restored by the owners back to its amazing best. Tranquil, peaceful, full of history. the buildings date from the 1500s but over the years neglect and fire led to its near demise. When these guys bought the house it was a shell. Now it is beautiful again. Mind the peacocks!

The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company - Cheddar

Cheddar, Somerset BS27 3QA

One must buy cheese when in Cheddar! Interesting little place although rather busy as it was August. They do make rather nice cheese although it is sold throughout the village so no need to go here if not interested in seeing it beeing made. Not one for teenagers!

Cheddar Sweet Kitchen - Cheddar

2 Daghole Cottages, Water Lane, Cheddar, Somerset BS27 3QJ

18.11.2008

Sadly disappointing. Was on my son’s to do list whilst on holiday. Demos of sweets being made were in a tiny cramped area and not very interesting. The shop did stock sweets they made but was mainly stuff you could buy anywhere, and at rather inflated prices we thought.

Co Op - Shepton Mallet

38-40 High Street, Shepton Mallet, Somerset BA4 5AS

Used this supermarket whilst on holiday. Good product range and high qulity as one would expect from the Co-op. Not too busy. Friendly staff.
