tunde kababs - Lakhnau

Lakhnau

25.05.2010

should have probably written “Lucknow” as “Lukh-naoo”. For one, I am ‘taken’ by the hospitality of the people here – everyone is extremely polite and not for nothing is the “khatirdaari” (hospitality) synonoymous with Lucknow.

What I am going to talk about today, however is, another thing that Lucknow is famous for – food!
Coming back to Dastaar Khwaan, it is located beyond Hazratganj, in a small congested lane with a gutter flowing right through it – not quite of ambience you’d associate with good food but trust me the food proves is quite otherwise. We ordered the following:

  • Galaawati Kebab – which is basically ‘Tunde’ Kebab.. Just that the latter is proprietary and has come to be associated with all forms of Tunde Kebabs in general – much like ‘Xerox’ for photocopies. Galaawati kebab is soft, rich and melts in your mouth.
  • Mutton Biryani – Tasted divine. Although I think, Kolkata Biryani tastes equally good (the likes of Shiraaz, Zeeshan, etc.).
  • Chicken Masala – this is what took the cake. The picture shown below is of the cook (what they call “Mistry” or “Kalakaar” here) making Chicken Masala!

Blue Ginger Bar & Restaurant - Kenton

383 Kenton Road, London HA3 0XS

15.04.2010

Blue Ginger is clearly popular with Kenton's well-to-do Asian families. Porsches and Mercedes crowd the car park, and flat-screen TVs and black leather couches dot the interior. The menu brilliantly captures Delhi's thriving Punjabi-Chinese food scene, so a meal could start with either pan-fried masala fish in a delicious ginger, chilli, coriander and peppercorn crust, or masala mogo (deep-fried cassava patties tossed in a distinct sweet and sour sauce). Cultural purists might prefer paneer bhurji (shredded paneer cooked with tomatoes, onions and coriander), or the fish masala, a helping of tilapia fillets in a tomato broth infused with ginger and garlic, and topped with roasted mustard seeds and fresh coriander.

royal china - Mumbai

turner road 192, bandra, Bombay

05.04.2010

Experience - In Bandra AGAIN. Well another of my Bandra sojourn. Its like ive discovered a whole new world of new food. Im so glad i avoided Bandra for so long. The place is done up very nicely. Interesting decor, dimmish lighting. I liked it.
Drinks - Diet Coke, Water, Ice Tea.

Food : Rather expansive menu. We ordered, noodle soup, wonton soup, hot n sour mushroom bun, spring rolls, schezuan potato, singapore noodles. Soups were on the money.

I liked mine very much, the noodle soup was kind of blandish, didnt taste the hot and sour. The schezuan potato wasnt what we thought it was. it ended up being very french fryish. Not good. The mushroom bun off the dim sum menu was very very good. The spring rolls were horrible, the noodles were average.

I think we messed up coz we were so busy chatting that we didnt really pay attention to what was being ordered. So even though it was dissapointing, i think we would be allright if we went in again and ordered peacefully.

Rating : Food 5/10, Service 8/10

Desi Flava - Hounslow

274 Bath Road, Hounslow, London TW4 7DF

22.03.2010

I became a "Desi Flava addict" in summer 2008 when the food was outstanding, the service professional and the ambience perfect. I didn't mind the queue outside the restaurant, which itself testified the quality of food that was served. I don't know what went wrong there after - the quality of food dropped all of a sudden and the service absolutely lousy. I am just back from Desi Flava with my wife and we are never ever going back until things improve - The Dahi puri was served soggy, the Sev Puri smelled old and to make things worse, they served a wrong dish after making us wait for 30 mins - and NO APOLOGIES after that !!! My advice is - Stay away !! Hounslow has loads of other restaurants which offer superior quality food.

The Hog in the Pound - Mayfair

28 South Molton Street, Mayfair, London W1K 5RF

22.03.2010

CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Popped in yesterday whilst trawling Oxford Street, looks nice & authentic, Bond St, Busy enough.... thats where the good stuff ends
When ordering our meals i asked for alteration on the meal, Sausage instead of Ham, no big deal, both were sat right in front of me on the hot hold... The reply from the staff member was'You get the food you ordered, nothing else, you cant add to it, you cant take away from it, you just get what you ordered, got it?' Stupidly, i stayed, once lifted of £30 was told to come back to the bar in 10 min & collect my food.
Once the 10 min was up, i checked to see if the food was there, it wasnt, a few mins later the barmn shouted out our food, as we atarted eatin our re-fried chips, over cooked egg on cheap ham i came across one of the barmans lovely flowing locks of hair in my food... priceless, this place is a SWERVE

Honeycombe Hungry Horse - London

417 Staines Road, London TW4 5AR

22.03.2010

his pub is quite appealing from the outside, however once inside you are confronted with dead atmoshere..deadpan barstaff..and piles of tasteless food on oversized plates...overcompensated with peas and sweetcorn(masses!)These pubs are sad attempt at being a Harvester..and doesn't feel like a pub at all!

Carpenters Arms - Windsor

4 Market Street, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 1PB

22.03.2010

A pleasant surprise - a pub this close to a major tourist attraction that is old, with tables outside for warmer days and food/drink that are remarkably cheap for the location. The interior is a bit scuffed, but that does not detract from the atmosphere. Interesting range of well-kept real ales - I tried Thornbridge "Kipling" and Cropton "Dangleberry" during my visit. The food is generally in the £5-10 bracket and focusses on being tasty and filling, if not especially adventurous - the range of pies is impressive however. I was there with a group of friends from central and eastern Europe, and they were favourably impressed with food and drink. The staff were also helpful. This must be the best pub for the casual visitor to Windsor Castle, and would make a good local too

The Crooked House Tea Rooms - Windsor

51 High Street, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 1LR

22.03.2010

Visited with a group, enjoyed sharing the full high tea, which is indeed pricey if shared between two as the menu recommends, though not out of line with other good tea shops. Enough food to share between six with the addition of a few more pots of tea. Four of the largest scones we laid eyes on, plus clotted cream, strawberry jam, four different sandwiches cut in quarters, ginger snaps, huge chunks of fruit cake, savory little pies with brie, a huge mound of fat sweet red seedless grapes, and I don't recall what else. Our four couldn't eat it all. Thank goodness for bottomless teenagers in our group!
The salmon and shrimp pasta was very nice as well, and the sandwiches some of the group ordered were huge and everything very fresh. Service was quick but be sure to specify when ordering if you want the tab broken up. Found the prices about average among those places so close to the palace and about even with touristy spots elsewhere we'd visited.

Masala Zone Restaurant - Soho

9 Marshall Street, Soho, London W1F 7ER

19.03.2010

He estado aquí cuatro veces ahora - siempre excelente.
