Pinto Mexican Kitchen - Glasgow

138 Queen Street, Glasgow, Scotland G1 3BX

24.10.2011

Great place for some filling and wholesome fast food, this Mexican is a revelation in Glasgow, located in very close proximity for Queen Street Station and the George Square area of town.

Several options for what type of food you fancy (Burrito, taco, “bare burrito” to name a few) and also a mixture of fillings makes this place a great treat and sensible alternative to Subway.

Prices are slightly higher than for comparable take-aways, but the option to sit in and the surprisingly filling helpings make this a place not to be missed.

Partick Thistle Football Club - Glasgow

80 Firhill Road, Firhill Stadium, Glasgow, Scotland G20 7AL

16.09.2011

A pleasant footballing experience, albeit at a ground with only three stands, one of which is apparently falling down. Ground is traditional in style and the back of the old main stand which faces Firhill Road reminds me a of a smaller Highbury. Makes a change from supporting Celtic or Rangers at least!

Sarti - Glasgow

42 Renfield Street, Glasgow, Scotland G2 1NF

20.06.2011

Went to the one on Bath Street - Can't complain at all, great food and good service. Reasonably priced food but wine can be rather dear (from £17 for the house)! Pints of beer are also around £4.20-£5.

D'Lish - East Kilbride

15 Saint James Avenue, Glasgow, Scotland G74 5QD

This is a lovely cafe which has both sit in and takeaway options. Their filled rolls for £1.80 including up to three toppings and the main constituent (I usually go for Cajun Chicken or Tikka, with cheese and jalapenos which are both lovely) are great value, very tasty and really filling. Their paninis are also very nice and I've heard the soup is good too. This place also sells premium Scottish products, such as Arran cheeses and Arran oatcakes.

Blackfriars - Glasgow

This is a good, proper pub which offers a wide selection of real ales and real ciders. Also has live music regularly and there's a strange seating area to one side of the pub... sort of like the place is trying to cater for too many people simultaneously. Free wifi too, ask for the password behind the bar.

Prices can be pricey and the music can be very loud... if they didn't serve real ales this would be a 3, but because of this, it's a worthy 4.

I've reduced this to a 3* for being turned away by the bouncers twice, because it was apparently too busy. No real ale pub should ever need bouncers. I fear this place has lost its way.

Three Judges - Glasgow

141 Dumbarton Road, Glasgow, Scotland G11 6PR

09.02.2011

A gem hidden right at the bottom of Byers Road, this place is a must for any Real Ale drinker in Glasgow. As other reviewers have commented, there is no music nor TVs, which means that you can enjoy what being in a good pub like this is all about, a decent chat with your mates and lovely beers.

They also have a WEST beer on tap too, if you're not quite up to the real ale.

GREEN CHILLI CAFE - Glasgow

1293 ARGYLE STREET, Glasgow, Scotland G3 8TL

09.02.2011

This was a lovely evening out for my birthday and 11 friends. The staff were very friendly and helpful (even bringing out my birthday cake, lighting the candles and providing cutlery/crockery for us), the food (tapas style and most dishes only a pound on Tuesdays and Wednesdays) was great value and very filling.

We had half a rice and half a ptoori (a regular sized nan to those from outside Glasgow!) between us and around four dishes each from the tapas menu which was more than sufficient to fill us all up. The beer wasn't too dear either, around £3.50 for a pint.

If you're thinking about going here just do it, you won't regret it. The place is styled lovely inside too, none of that 80's carpet on the walls or anything like that...

Jane_Elizabeth Sounds great, might try it sometime!

La Lanterna - Glasgow

35 Hope Street, Glasgow, Scotland G2 6AE

06.12.2010

Excellent little family owned and run Italian restaurant on Hope Street, next to Central Station in Glasgow. I had lived in Glasgow for two years before I found it (the restaurant itself is in a very atmoshperic underground setting) but I will never forget it.

Pre-theatre at night for an exceptional £14.99 (excluding Xmas) for three of the best courses you will ever eat. The calamari rings are exceptional, the pasta is so fresh it's untrue and the ice cream is literally the best I have ever tasted.

This is such an easy decision to make to recommend this place. You'd have to be stupid to choose any other Italian over La Lanterna (and brain dead if you prefer Jamie's Restaurant).

Old Smiddy - Glasgow

131 Old Castle Road, Cathcart, Glasgow, Scotland G44 5TJ

06.12.2010

What an excellent, proper pub. Cheap as chips food offers, (curry for £2.99 on Tuesdays) and similarly excellent prices on beers and Real Ale, from £1.99 a pint. They had a great EPA on when I was there, and apparently they have two barrells a week for Ale.

Friendly bar staff and nice locals, can't recommend it enough.

Greyfriars - Perth

15 South Street, Perth, Scotland PH2 8PG

Great wee pub in Perth with lots of charm and character. Literally the size of your front room! Very friendly staff, and well-kept real ales on tap. Had a lovely beer when I was there, Fairfax Special. Recommended.
