Phoenix Bar - Edinburgh

46 Broughton Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 3SA

18.05.2010

This is a totally decent little pub. I like the pleasant nature of the staff, and I enjoyed their whisky of the month immensely.

This is quite a good one if you're going to a George Street but can't face Tigerlily pre-club.

Under the Stairs - Edinburgh

3a Merchant St., Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 2QD

18.05.2010

Really good pub, very chilled out and hidden away ('Under The Stairs').

It's actually quite big inside, but is very cosy, with really nice decor as well.

Some of the cocktails are really good these days too.

Chop Chop - Edinburgh

248 Morrison Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH3 8DT

18.05.2010

As made famous on Gordon Ramsey's 'The F Word', Chop Chop really is an outstanding restaurant, except that now you definitely need to book in advance now if you want to get a table.

The food is amazing (the chinese dumplings are especially recommended), although it is served differently than in most restaurants; all of the food comes out just as soon as it's ready. The staff are friendly and helpful, and explain how to mix the sauce for the dumplings.

Totally authentic, not pretentious in the least, I really can't say enough good things about Chop Chop.

The Jam House - Edinburgh

Queen Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 1JE

02.05.2010

Although I had heard horror stories about this place from a friend who worked here, when I came here then I really liked it.

The excellent live music that night came from the Soul Foundation, playing Motown covers.

the drinks are very expensive, though. I definitely agree with others when they have said that the Jam House is geared towards an older clientele.

I have heard that the food here is terrible though. Poor show, Jools Holland.

The Cavendish - Edinburgh

3 West Tollcross, Edinburgh, Scotland EH3 9BP

02.05.2010

The Cavendish is now officially called Lava Ignite, although it is still widely known by its former name.

It is basically a student binge-drinking complex with seven bars. Drinks come incredibly cheap.

Not my scene, not at all.

This nightclub will, however, appeal very much to students who are fond of binge drinking. As I mentioned before, it is totally geared towards this clientele.

Scayles Music - Edinburgh

50 St. Patrick Square, Edinburgh, Scotland EH8 9ES

02.05.2010

This is one of Edinburgh's best music shops. In particular it stocks a most excellent array of guitars; or maybe it's just that I only notice the guitars because I'm a guitarist?

Well, without getting too philosophical, let's just say that I really like the shop, and I envy the guys who get to work here.

Nice.

Bacchus Antiques - Edinburgh

95 West Bow, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 2JP

02.05.2010

Bacchus is the Greek God of wine and ecstasy.

Bacchus Antiques is a quiet antiques store.

Figure that one out!

Toys Galore - Edinburgh

193 Morningside Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH10 4QP

02.05.2010

You don't need children to go to the toy shop. It's amazing as an adult the weird excitement that being in a toy shop evokes in you.

I often buy stupid birthday presents for awesome friends here, but also get something for myself as well.

The toys are pretty much all the same as when we were children, so prepare for waves of nostalgia.

Giligulu - Edinburgh

57 Clerk Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH8 9JQ

02.05.2010

Giligulu is one of my favourite Chinese takeaways. I especially am partial to their tofu in black bean sauce.

AlthoughI first ventured in here in order to exploit their excellent student discounts and Snapfax deals, I keep coming back.

This is a pretty good Chinese takeaway, and it comes highly recommended.

The Waiting Room - Edinburgh

7 Belhaven Terrace, Edinburgh, Scotland EH10 5HZ

02.05.2010

The food here is really great, and that is what makes me keep on coming back here. The atmosphere is very laid-back, as do all pubs in the rather genteel Morningside area.

I will keep on coming here. I advise you to join me.
