Mainland China - Punei
Dhole patil Road, Koregan Park, Pune
24.01.2009
The ambience of Mainland China is what hits you when you first enter the doors of this fine restaurant. It is very chinese - with the decor, the music and the waiters dressed up in black.
All the times I have been here, it was noisy - with most of the people having business lunches - but at the same time, not so noisy that you cannot have a decent conversation without yelling.
They have a fabulous fixed lunch for about 300 bucks inclusive of taxes which I’ve had once - and the other two times, we’ve gone a la carte’.
The food is exceptional and made with such finesse that you wonder what food you have been having all this while in the name of chinese food.
You can taste the delicate aroma and the spices in the food - but it has been done so subtly - that it brings a whole new meaning to it.
The service is pretty good too - and the waiters were polite and pleasant all the times we’ve been there.
Ask for the green tea when you go there - it is extremely soothing.
Vohuman Cafe - Punei
Pune railway station, Pune
24.01.2009
This place has your typical parsi restaurant food. The bun maska , irani chai, etc. The cheese omlette is to die for. Ant the owner ..an old parsi guy is the funniest / cutest parsi person i’ve ever met who manages to entertain you with his funny jokes even at 6 in the morning.
This place is not for the Health and Calorie Concious people.
One of the best Cheese Omlets in the World!! I guess the only place wher I have seen more cheese than egg in the omlet…out of the world omlet….
The Normal Butter toast and Cheese Butter toast are also amazing!!
The Size of the Cheese slice in betwwen the breads is as thick as the Bread slice itself :)
The ambiance is a typical Irani/ Parsi Cafe with old Marble tables and Plastic chairs.
Over all an amazing Breakfast joint!!
Darshan Restaurant - Punei
Prabhat Road, Deccan Gymkhana, Pune

A good cozy hangout and a quite place to give your taste buds a real treat..
You order anything and be assured that its going to be worth every penny.. The food not only tastes good but is very neatly presented and you feel like tryin out something more.
Personally I feel most orders are placed by looking at the well decorated and neatly presented stuff going on someone elses table :)
Things to try out:
Baked beans on toast:: one of my favs and u get the best here
Chole bhature:: a bit oily but worth even that means exercising the nxt day
various pastas:: the right mix
chilly cheese toast:: they have their own bread for this
Not tried the other baked dishes and some starters but they sure look delicious.
The staff is well mannered and has a good menu knowledge.
1000 Oaks - Punei
East Street 2417, camp, Pune
24.01.2009
1000 Oaks has an awesome sports bar ambiance. It also has an outside sitting apart from the inner bar area.
I was there to watch the India-Australia semifinal (twenty-20 world cup). The place was packed but we managed a place to sit since we went there really early. They have a decent sized wall hung tv on top of the bar where you can enjoy the sport.
The food is great as well. I would surely recommend the paneer tikka and the paneer chilly…extremely delicious and very well done. (Priced at Rs. 130 each). Kingfisher pints and bottles are prices at Rs 100 and Rs 180 respectively.
Another favourite and a must try out here is the Barman’s Pitcher which is pitcher full of every possible liquor combination. Also not to be missed are the French fries with Tartar Sauce (which is the best tartar sauce i’ve ever had).
In All ..this is one hell of a place and totally worth every Penny.
Post 91 Bar - Punei
Koregaon Park Lane 7, Pune

This is one fo the best buffet places I’ve been to in pune. The ambiance is great , the service is very good ..and the food tastes excellent. Not to mention the mind blowing desserts…which are absolutely awesome.
The decor was quite good, with nice lighting and well placed mirrors to give the place a spacious feel. There is also an outdoor area/patio for couples who want to enjoy the season along with the food.
The best part I liked was the awesome starters and the salad bar ..which offers quite a bit in terms of salad types and dressings.
One suggestion would be to please leave some place for the desserts as they are truly awesome.
The only flip side would be that the place is usually crowded ..so make sure you reserve in advance. All this and a complimentary non-alcoholic drink for about 300 bucks per person for lunch on a weekday is well worth it.
In my opinion ..it is the best buffet place in pune. Try it out …and see for yourself.
Durvankur Restaurant - Punei
Sadashiv Peth 1166, 411030 Pune
24.01.2009
Durvankur Restaurant is an indian cuisine restaurant located on tilak road. They serve authentic maharashtrian thali which includes puri or chapatti, waranbhath, chuteny, koshimbir, lasan chi chuteny, bhakri, khichdi/ kadhi, gulab jamun, basundi, shrikhand and different types of curries, vegetables, farsans.
Food here is good. Meal for two costs around Rs.200. This place is always full of people. Decor is not good and gives impression of eating in a marriage hall. They accept credit card and provide home delivery service.
Bounty Sizzlers - Punei
kalyani Nagar shop no.14-15, Yerwada, Pune
24.01.2009
If you are fond of sizzlers, then you must try out The Bounty. I’d rank them well above some of the other better known sizzler joints in the city.
we started with fried prawns as starters , to go with some drinks , as they can not imagine good food without it , and also tasted their chicken patties , oven fresh from their own bakery.
we were then served with real sumptuous sizzlers , complete with noodles , plenty of mushrooms , and some vegetables .
Every thing is tastily prepared , promptly served , and must say the Chef knows his recipes .
What I also like about their sizzlers is that you have an option of ordering a kid’s sizzler which is basically a smaller serving of a full-sized sizzler - the quite obvious choice for a small eater or if you’re not 'that’ hungry. They also serve chinese, continental and some parsi cuisine which is pretty decent.
Give them a try!
Mocha Restaurant - Punei
Law college road 153/A, Varun Complex, Pune
24.01.2009
Okay…Firstly ..I know this place is a bit expensive and will not appeal to those on a shoe string budget . But if you are looking to have a great time in an awesome place …then this is the place to be . Trust me people …I’ve been a regular at coffee day and Barrista outlets in pune , but mocha just takes the cake !!
My reasoning is that it is better to spend a little more and get your moneys worth at mocha , rather than spending a little less at the other coffee shops like barrista and end up drinking some crappy coffee. Not to mention the lethargic service and equally arrogant waiters.
Every time I have been to mocha I have seen the same consistency (be it their coffees , pastries or service). You can choose from a huge range of coffees , pastries , italian pastas , mexican food etc .For sheesha lovers …you can enjoy some really exotic sheesha flavours too (although they come at a price).
This is definitely a place I wouldnt be scared of ordering anything I have not tried or heard of before, because I have never been disappointed by anything that I’ve ordered.
La Pizzeria - Punei
Bund Garden Road 361/5, Pune railway station, Pune
24.01.2009
You always wonder if Italian could go completely veg. La Pizzeria makes it happen. And for those of you well-travelled lot, you can pretty much vouch for that.
We went out for a Sunday lunch to celebrate a promotion. The location is perfect, valet parking a breeze and the restaurant tastefully done up.
We started with crostini, the mozzarella tasting very fresh, not salted-perfect for me. Followed this up with main courses of ravioli (good firm past with great ricotta and spinach filling), pizza (thin crust-i liked it, friends did not) and mushroom risotto(very well done, cooked beautifully in cream and mushroom). This is definetely something I will try at home.
We finished the meal with tiramisu and granita with limoncelo liquor, both of which were letdowns. the limoncelo was a little more than lime cordial on ice, no hint of liquor at all-definetely not italian. The tiramisu was too weak, again no hint of alcohol.
The bill for 4 came upto 2100, not bad considering the food that was ordered
All in all, there does exist a place in Pune where you get very decent Italian food.
Sharvaree Restaurant - Punei
Fergusson College Road 1119/1A,, Deccan Gymkhana, Pune
24.01.2009
Sharvaree, is like a perfect family place. You would really enjoy the admosphere here on a weekend. On a saturday or sunday morning if you visit this place, you see so many families coming down having breakfast, the kids running all over the place. Really gives you the family feeling.
It serves Indian cusine which includes some mouth watering maharashtrian dishes, really good south indian from the dosai family and the good old punjabi.
The place does not carry any special ambience.. but its very neatly arranged, looks very very clean. The enterace has these water puddles with flowers arranged in them, they look very interesting.
Service is very prompt, all the waiters are polite and helpful. Always serve you with a smile. And in my case, they always remember what I eat for breakfast. If on someday I dont order my usual butter toast, they remind me of it :)
