I was really disappointed on moving back to Maida Vale after 20 years absence that Raouls had gone down the drain. Basically it used to be the best place for any meal when I was little. Now the service is only good when it is empty. I went with my mother the other week and they completely forgot her main course! They brought mine but didn’t question that she didn’t have a plate in front of her. We had to wait about 15 minutes for someone to take notice of me waving my arms around (and saying “excuse me” in a loud voice) to get their attention before we could re-order her dinner, then wait another 20 minutes for it to arrive. The manager came and offered us free puddings, but since we were full after this we didn’t take him up on this offer. Her main course should have automatically been free for this mistake. I have been a few other times and the food is still good, but the lack of English-speaking ability is something which has caused some anxious moments while waiting for our orders to be rectified. Don’t go unless it is empty so that they are able to take your order in a stress-free way.

I was not impressed when I went - admittedly it was a Sunday evening, but all the dishes which had been reviewed well were out! To be honest, that’s just bad operations management. It is understandable if one or two things were off the menu, but four off the starters list and three off the mains were no longer available. The service was slow and indifferent, the food itself was good, although the rib-eye steak I got was perhaps about 100g (considering usually a steak is 150-200g this was a bit on the tiny side) and the chips were over-salted (to the point where I had to down lots of water!).
While this might be opening issues, I think it is more likely that Mr Ramsey is relying on people wanting to say they’ve been to his restaurant. A previous review mentioned the poor decor - considering the downstairs is spectacular, the upstairs is a massive disappointment. Completley uninspired. Don’t go unless you are taking people who desperately want to say they’ve been to a Ramsey restaurant and who don’t mind what they eat or how they’re served.
