Roadhouse - Covent Garden
Bsmnt Jubilee Market The Piazza, London WC2E 8BE
28.11.2008
The comments are true to the fact that roadhouse can be over-crowded on fri and sat night. But that is the case with the majority of decent bars in central london. There are different types of pubs, bars and clubs in London that cater my needs. Roadhouse for me is a place to start off during Happy Hour. Cocktails usually cost around £6, but during happy hour (between 5.30 and 7.30 Mon to Fri), two cocktails cost £4.50. The service is very quick and staff are friendly and cocktails contain an acceptable amount of alcohol (not like belushis which do TERRIBLE COCKTAILS)... But do not try to spend the night there.
Start there and move on to somewhere a bit more lively and less crowded. you could try the gardening club which does happy hour until 9pm….
Covent garden is not the best place to be on a fir or sat night. It is full of mediocre bars and pubs which are over-crowded and over-priced.
Lambeth North Tube Station - Lambeth
110 Westminster Bridge Road, Lambeth, London SE1 7XG
19.11.2008
Lambeth north station is on the bakerloo line and from it, you will reach central london in 10 minutes flat. Access to the station is not suitable for wheelchair users as there is a staircase from the life in order to access the platforms. The bakerloo line is quite a nice and reliable line, and although it can be quite busy in the mornings, it is usually possible to get a seat at the front of the train, since it is the second stop on the bakerloo line…
The station staff are rude, lazy and extremely unhelpful. Last time I bought a ticket there, the lady refused to serve me. Afterwards, the same lady tried to short change and old man who promptly told her to WAKE UP….
That is he problem with the tube and London in general, there is too much dead wood in the workplace with people feeling that as long as they get to work they do not have to do anything else. And if their boss pushes them, they might break a sweat which is swiftly followed by a sicknote for stress….
TFL is subsidised by us the people and every year the ticket increase is way above inflation. Something has to be done as the tube and transport in the UK is the most expensive in the world and the most unreliable at times….
Cha Cha Moon - Soho
15-21 Ganton Street, Soho, London W1F 9BN
19.11.2008
It is cheap, £3.50 for a good portion. The food is quick and it is better to go in a smaller group as it gets very busy…
For lunch on the run and due to the credit crunch, it certainly is a great place to go.
Is a great place for students, quite similar to wagamamas in style, but has a better selection of dishes which are cheaper and the location itself is excellent…
White Hart Lane Football Ground - Upper Edmonton
White Hart Lane, Tottenham, London N17 0AP
19.11.2008
White Hart Lane is a stadium that is rather small compared to some of the bigger more modern stadiums such as Old Trafford and the newly opened Emirates stadium, but it certainly ahs its advantages. I think that the tickets are now too expensive and tottenham might even struggle to fill up a bigger stadium. They play some very exciting football and the club does have history…. What history, well Spurs were the first team in England to win the league double… The only thing that lets them down is their inconsistency and also the odd case of food posioning a couple of years ago, which saw them pushed out of the top four by everton on the last game of the season.
I have been to white hart lane on numerous occasions and have to say that the atmosphere is SPECIAL and a live football match cannot compare in the slightest to watching a match on TV.
There are a couple of issues that need to be addressed:
1) The price of the tickets at white hart lane are far too high, £80 for top matches. This issue of frivilous at spurs but also throughout other premiership clubs.
2) The transport. When tottenham are at home, there might be anything up to 40,000 fans attending and the local transport links to this day are still as shabby as they were back in the 708s and 80s, when hooliganism was rife… Come on Boris, sort it out…....
the dublin castle - Camden
94 Parkway, Camden, London NW1 7AN
19.11.2008
The Dublin castle is a world famous pub in Camden Town and has seen many famous acts step on its stage.
There is live music almost every night and it is quite a small but intimate venue… In Koko or other larger venues, you do not feel the same vibes…
The landlord is actually a family friend, but I have never had to call in any favours, YET…
Very efficiet and professional staff, a mixture of clientele, but all are certainly welcome. On a Sunday night, this is the only pub (i believe) that does not close at 11, so it is usually aone for the road in the Dublin castle before we head off to bed after another heavy binge drinking weekend…
If you are in Camden, it is worth visiting the castle, which is located at the top of parkway, just so you can say that you were there….
Chislehurst Caves - Chislehurst
Caveside Close, Old Hill, London BR7 5NL
19.11.2008
Chislehurst is a small town in kent, located within very close proximty from C London by train and I love it. I visited the caves two months ago, but drove and it took over a nhour - so my advice is if you are coming from London, take the train.
It is a nightmare going down the old kent road, through new cross, etc. So DONT EVEN GO THERE BY CAR…
The caves have been around for thousands of years and are divided between Saxon, Roman and Druid sections…
The tour takes you approximately through one mile of the caves, but it seems longer. It is not possible to enter the caves alone, for the obvious reason that you will get lost…
Tours are on the hour every hour and are very informative and quite scary for first-timers. The caves were actually inhabited during World war II due to the continuous air raids…
There are also ghost stories and scary tales that will igve the children a fright or two….
It is something different and something unforgettable. Myself and my family are all eager to return.
For the very brave, there is a special halloween tour, but this is certainly not for the faint hearted…
dan_rodson No Chislehurst is part of the London Borough of Bromley, therefore Chislehurst is London as well, Southeast London to be exact, it all changed in 1965 :D read about here:

The Farmers Club - Westminster
3 Whitehall Court, London SW1A 2EL
19.11.2008
The farmers club is a private members club located within close proximity of the horseguards in white hall court. It is very exclusive and the membership is comprised of lords, private landowners and some very well recognised people…
The quality of customer service is excellent, especially the staff at reception and the weekend dining room staff. If you do happen to drop by for a tour and meet Cyril at reception, tell him i said hello.
ALthough the price of membership is expensive and the actual of chance of receiving membership is extremely difficult, the price of the bedrooms and food and drink is very reasonable. It is possible to stay in the clubhouse at the weekend for £50 per night (including VAT and continental breakfast). The club is essentially British and so the menu is very BRITISH, but the quality of food really is top notch.
If you do ever have the opportunity to join, dont turn it down as it will be a once in the lifetime opportunity!
Camden Town Library - Euston
218 Eversholt Street, London NW1 1BD
19.11.2008
Camden town library is quite small in comparision to some of the other libraries in the borough, for example, Swiss cottage, but I love it anyway. It is amusing that some people would prefer to buy a book for £10 plus, read it, put it on the shelf to collect dust and when they are moving house, realise they have too much junk and then give it to a charity shop. Wake up and get with the times - if you want a book, get it fromthe library… If they do not have it there, they can either order it from another library in the borough or even order it from their suppliers - only of course if it will be of use to other people…
There is also computer access. It is possible to book a time slot (max 1 hour per day), but if the computer is free when down there, it might be possible to use it for another hour.
For those who lack IT skills, it is possible to attend an IT class, which is suitable for all age groups and levels, whether beginner or advanced….
If you live in Camden, try it out, we do pay council tax so try and use the councils facilities as much as possible and save money…
Sway - Covent Garden
61 - 65 Great Queen Street, Holborn, London WC2B 5BZ
19.11.2008
Very nice bar located in the heart of Covent garden which like the majority of bars, also possess a restaurant. The food available is modern British, there are three very different and trendy bars within the venue and a club night at least twice a week.
Last time I went, i had the fish finger sandwich with salad and chips. Was all very nice but the fish fingers a little over done, other than that no complaints. Everyone else in my party very please with their food (bacon burger, bbq chicken and pasta arabiata) . The cocktails were lovely and very reasonably priced in happy hour (not too bad outside of happy hour either). Food was great value and Sway was popular so had a great atmosphere. Staff were helpful and prompt.
It is always nice to work into one of these trendy bars and be able to order a nice pint of draught beer, as I am not really into bottles…. I love Becks Vier, but this can be difficult to find!
