I know, I know, It’s a chain, and usually I am pretty scathing when it comes to corporate food peddling, but I needed to kill an hour before my meeting today, and the place was open and it was cool inside. The staff were lovely, and happily seated me in the back garden, with a coffee and my lap top for 20 mins before I ordered the Chef’s salad. TONS of m favourite food. Avocado, olives, tomato, lettuce, french dressing, artichokes and parma ham.
Mmmmmmmmmm….......
Lots of it, and all fresh and tasty :-)
I was obviously born in the wrong country.

I love charity shops.
My house has been furnished from skips and my cupboards are full of “stuff”. A bargain is as good as it gets, sometimes.
PDSA Orpington however made me SO cross, I hadto write.
This was the last of the 8 million charity shops that adorn the High Street in this South East London Satelite, not because there is a super duper new out of town “shopping experience” but because people like it that way….apparently.After a few minutes of innocent browsing, I became aware of a woman glaring at me over folded, permatanned, leathery arms. Her bright pink mouth pursed like a dogs bottom. I glanced at her and considered what she was doing. If I were a shoplifter, I wouldn’t get far as I have a bad leg, but what would I be doing nicking a £4.99 dress anyway? I thought I must be mistaken. I went to the til, then spotted some cameras so left the queue to take a better look. As I peered at them over the fan, leatherface asked in a loud voice from right next to me “Have you served this lady?” obviously meant to let me know she had me in her sights.
Dumbfounded, I left the cameras, made my purchase and went on my way.
I have never been made to feel so awkward in a shop before! Did she really have nothing better to do? Perhaps she should leave the shop keeping to the other, much nicer ladies that looked embarresses at her behavior. Maybe she was a retired headmistress that missed her job!
Either way, the PDSA are going to get a letter. I have a direct debit giving them a little every month because as an impoverished student, they glued my dog back together on numerous occasions and I believe I owe them.
Grrrr to leathery bored housewives with dogs bottoms for mouths and pink lipstick.
Now I have vented, I should stop going over it.
rachawray I work for another PDSA and to be honest we have to watch everyone (within reason) as we lose hundreds of pounds a year in each store to shoplifters. And believe it or not YES people do steal items that are £4.99 and in some occasions a lot less. We are not treating people different for others that enter the store as with being a charity we simply can afford to lose the amount of stock that we do. Maybe if you had time you could go and volunteer in a different store and then you would be able to see 1st hand the kind of people that are out there stealing from charity shops…its shocked me when I started.

speshalkay Oh believe me, I visit many MANY charity shops on a weekly basis, of all kinds in all towns and cities! My problem was with one woman in one shop. Nowhere else has anyone stood behind me with their arms folded and stared at me.
I WAS treated differently and I WAS made to feel uncomfortable. Maybe I should have asked her name and then contacted the head office?
I give to the PDSA via direct debit and I shop in my local one at least once a week. I am sure my review was about the one shop only.
