Pros This W H Smith is really big and has a big stationery and magazines section as well as a large book, music and games floor. There are usually plenty of offers available to make your purchases better value, and there are plenty of good ideas for Christmas or birthday gifts.

Cons When we selected two books on a 'buy one get one half price’ deal, the offer didn’t come up on the till and the sales assistant wouldn’t believe us about the deal until we went and got the ticket and showed her. We didn’t appreciate this. We also found it very difficult to find any staff to help us.

Pros The O2 shop is fairly large and is located in the middle of Guildford town centre. The shop is modern and well laid out, with plenty of mobile phones available to play with, and staff are on the shop floor to chat through tariff options.

Cons We waited for ten minutes at the service desk where there was no member of staff serving before we got bored and left. The shop was not overly busy and there was not enough staff on duty at the time, a Saturday afternoon.

Pros This Lloyds Bar is located near Guildford town centre, and is very well-sized. It’s fairly well-decorated in a modern style, and there are lots of tables and chairs available. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the prices are good and cheap. The food menu is quite large and is typical Lloyds/Wetherspoons fare, well cooked and served up quickly- can’t fault it!

Cons Although the pub is really big, it does get very busy especially on a friday and a Saturday night and it can be difficult to get served quickly or find a table. Not the best for a quiet night out.
Like many Wetherspoons pubs, the floor does seem a bit sticky to me and the furniture seems a bit outdated.

Pros This Superdrug is located in Guildford’s pedestrianised town centre. The shop is really big and stocks a huge range of products, including lots of cosmetics, toiletries and food, as well as some gifts- which is great at Christmas as Supserdrug tends to be cheaper than, for example, Boots. When you find them, the staff are friendly and welcoming and are happy to help out.

Cons The shop isn’t laid out particularly well and it can be difficult to find things- but not as difficult as it is to find a shop assistant!! The entrance is also always cluttered and difficult to navigate, and there isn’t as much choice in gifts as there is at Boots

Pros This Lakeland store is located in the middle of Guildford’s pedestrianised town centre and is a fairly small store. The store is well decorated in a traditional style and stocks good quality items- as well as Radley, which I was very excited about as I absolutely love Radley! The sales staff are friendly, chatty and helpful- and were very patient with me when I insisted on trying out every purse before I could decide which one I wanted.

Cons The only con is that it’s not a bigger shop.

Pros This Next is located near the middle of Guildford town centre and is fairly large. It has a womenswear, menswear, and small childrenswear and home sections as well. The staff are friendly and helpful when you can find them, and were very chatty and helpful when we were buying an artificial Christmas tree the other day.

Cons It’s not the largest Next ever, and huge queues can build up- especially in the sales, when they also close off the changing rooms, which is really annoying as you can’t try anything on. It’s fine if you live nearby and can bring things back, but if you live out of town like me, it’s a total drag.

Pros This Starbucks is a big cafe located in a shopping centre near Guildford’s pedestrianised town centre. There’s huge amounts of floor space, filled with plenty of tables and chairs, and there’s a good-sized coffee bar staffed with very competent baristas who are friendly and welcoming and more than happy to make up a coffee to your exacting requirements. (well they were to mine anyway!!)

Cons However hard the staff try to keep on top of the cleaning, there are always empty mugs on the tables.

Pros This Starbucks is located on the High Street near Guildford’s pedestrianised town centre. It’s not huge, but has a fair few tables and chairs and has a comfortable, cosy atmosphere. The coffee bar is fairly large and has some competent baristas who are friendly and welcoming and who can confidently make up your favourite coffee.

Cons This Starbucks looks more like a caff than a cafe, and the staff are always a little behind on clearing the empty mugs.

Pros This shop is located on a side road near the middle of Guildford’s pedestrianised town centre. It’s a fairly large store, and has a good range of homewares- plenty of gorgeous crockery, linen and lighting. The items are of a very high quality- in my opinion, higher than Ikea or the other similar stores. The staff are friendly and welcoming and were happy to help us with our queries when we visited.

Cons Goods are more expensive than the other department stores, and personally I’d prefer to go with, for example, Marks and Spencer instead.
The shop’s located a bit away from the High Street and is quite easy to miss if you don’t know where it is.

Pros You can always smell Lush a little way down the street… and it smells great! I’ve loved Lush since I was given a gift box for Christmas, and it’s great to go in and have a poke around and sniff everything. All the toiletries are presented well in a sort of apothecary style, which is really attractive. The staff are friendly and happy to help in getting you anything you ask for, which I appreciated when I asked them to make up a gift box for a friend.

Cons After a little while, the smells do sort of get up your nose… and my boyfriend and parents can’t stand it at all.
