Coole Café in meiner Nähe. Zum ersten Mal beim Sonntagsfrühstück sagte der (sehr nette) Mitbewohner, nachdem wir schon auf ein Kaffee und Bedienung insgesamt 40 Min gewartet hatten:

- es kann ein bisschen dauern, wär das okay für euch?
- ja kein Ding, aber wie lang ungefähr?
- ich frage den Koch und komm gleich zurück
(10-15 Min später)
- es wird ungefähr 20 Min dauern, geht das noch?
- okay, kein Problem!

ca. 50 Min später kamen unsere Frühstücke… sie waren sehr sehr lecker und sahen wunderschön aus, wirklich Kunstwerke. Mit besserer Bedienung dann gerne fünf Sterne, aber alles (nicht nur das Frühstück) hat VIEL zu lang gedauert und deswegen nur drei. Es muss eine einzigartige Art Zeitdilatation dort geben oder irgendwas.

Außerdem war der Kaffee gut aber nichts besonders und das Biersortiment klasse; die Preise stimmen auch. Aber wir haben nur die Getränkekarte angeschaut um die Zeit zu verbringen… ich war noch nicht da am Abend, aber würde gern irgendwann vorbeischauen.

Tolle Kneipe an der Reichenberger Str. Pluspunkte:
+ 0,5l Jarosover vom Fass kostet nur €1,50 vor 21 Uhr (!!)
+ Flaschen Tegenseer auch, u.a.
+ viel Platz
+ man wird mit einem Lächeln bedient, ja eine Neuheit für Berlin
+ Tafelservice, wenn nicht rammelvoll an Wochenenden
+ immer geschmacksvolle Musik
+ viel Platz hinten

Großer Minuspunkt für den DJ-Euro nach 23 Uhr, auch unter der Woche... Zwar nur €1 aber ich find's sowieso frech.

Fazit: unter der Woche bzw. vor 21 Uhr kenne ich nirgendwo besser für ein paar Bierchen in der Nähe von Kotti.

Sehr freundliche und angenehme Bedienung, die Haare wurde sehr gut und sachkundig geschnitten, günstige Preise, nur zu empfehlen.

Sehr lecker - ich hatte Lachs-Crepes für €2,80 oder so. Ich erwartete ein Paar kleine Crepes, aber die waren sehr groß und kamen mit einem schönen Salat auch. 0,5l Berliner Pils war nur €1,60. Ich komme zwar aus Großbritannien, also fast alles in Berlin scheint mir günstig, aber dieses Café ist auf jeden Fall preiswert.

Nur 4/5 wegen des Verkehrslärms, wenn man draußen sitzt. Aber das ist der einzige Nachteil!

I agree with the previous reviewer about the set menu -- it is overpriced and the choice is poor. However the a la carte selection is very broad and also extremely good value for money.

Food is usually presented on a thali, with rice, chipatti/naan, a curry of your choice, as well as three smaller dishes (dahls, etc.) that the chefs change every day. It's a fantastic way to eat for £8-£10. Having said all this, you are by no means obligated to eat from a thali; you can order food presented in a more common anglo-indian fashion if you prefer.

The two curries I've tried at Masala Zone are butter chicken and rogan josh. In both cases the curries were properly spiced and the meat was extremely tender but still well cooked. I was particularly impressed by the lamb.

The starters are very tasty but perhaps not as good value as the thalis. Aloo tikka chaat, and the dabalrotis in particular are worth trying.

Masala Zone is very attractive inside; the are deep red and brown murals on the walls and pleasant lighting. The atmosphere is very relaxed and there is always a diverse mix of people there.

The service is prompt and polite (though perhaps a bit unreliable at times). Later in the evenings it can get pretty busy, but I would consider this a good thing. If you arrive before 6.30pm then you have the option of a cheaper set menu. Don't be afraid of not being able to get a table later on -- as long as you arrive before 8pm there shouldn't be a problem.

It can be very difficult to find a good indian restaurant in London; I've been caught out many times by indian restaurants that look good from the outside, but are in fact overpriced with poor food and service. Masala Zone is, on the other hand, reliable, original and very good value.
