Overpriced drinks and fairly expensive entry. It’s pretty cramped inside and the atmosphere isn’t great. There’s mostly mainstream music which merges into absolute cheese by the end of the night. Rubbish club.

    Masala Zone Restaurant

I agree with the previous reviewer about the set menu -- it is overpriced and the choice is poor. However the a la carte selection is very broad and also extremely good value for money.

Food is usually presented on a thali, with rice, chipatti/naan, a curry of your choice, as well as three smaller dishes (dahls, etc.) that the chefs change every day. It's a fantastic way to eat for £8-£10. Having said all this, you are by no means obligated to eat from a thali; you can order food presented in a more common anglo-indian fashion if you prefer.

The two curries I've tried at Masala Zone are butter chicken and rogan josh. In both cases the curries were properly spiced and the meat was extremely tender but still well cooked. I was particularly impressed by the lamb.

The starters are very tasty but perhaps not as good value as the thalis. Aloo tikka chaat, and the dabalrotis in particular are worth trying.

Masala Zone is very attractive inside; the are deep red and brown murals on the walls and pleasant lighting. The atmosphere is very relaxed and there is always a diverse mix of people there.

The service is prompt and polite (though perhaps a bit unreliable at times). Later in the evenings it can get pretty busy, but I would consider this a good thing. If you arrive before 6.30pm then you have the option of a cheaper set menu. Don't be afraid of not being able to get a table later on -- as long as you arrive before 8pm there shouldn't be a problem.

It can be very difficult to find a good indian restaurant in London; I've been caught out many times by indian restaurants that look good from the outside, but are in fact overpriced with poor food and service. Masala Zone is, on the other hand, reliable, original and very good value.

Sweatband is primarily an online store, but they've just opened a showroom near Goodge Street.

The place is pretty basic and not all of the stock is on display, however everything there is very good value and the staff are very friendly not to mention extremely knowledgeable. If you're in London and in need of sports equipment this is a great place to go.

They offer a 10-day trial period for most equipment, during which you can get a free refund (even if you've used the equipment etc.). If they have to completely repackage the equipment then they may add a charge of 10%, but according to their website this is rare. In any case, this trial period is extremely important to anyone seriously buying a squash/tennis racket.

Though not quite as cheap as Lilywhites on Picadilly Circus, Sweatband have a much better range of equipment in sports they actually specialise in and the staff are infinitely more helpful. Highly recommended, especially since it can be very hard to find good quality sports equipment in London since Sports Direct invaded Lilywhites.

    Builders Arms

The Builders Arms is so far the best pub I've yet been able to find in Kensington and Chelsea.

It's tucked away in an astonishingly quiet neighbourhood between Gloucester Road and Kensington High Street so it's often remarkably quiet. The bar staff are friendly and knowledgeable, there is great lighting and very comfortable seating. There is a very broad selection of beers and ciders, including lagers, belgian witbiers, german weissbiers, bitters and ales.

Not a cheap pub by any stretch of the imagination but nevertheless the prices compare favourably to those of most other pubs in the borough. Having a few pints there this is worth the money, which is more than can be said for most other nearby pubs. A Hoegaarden and a Jack and Coke came to £6.85 the last time I was there. This is somewhat at odds with my student budget but I'm never short of excuses to go back there! The bar staff will quickly begin to recognise a familiar face and get to know you.

The food is fairly well priced and of a good standard, especially the £5 full English (excellent for a Sunday morning hangover).

If you want to avoid the more-affluent suit-wearing wine-drinking sort of punter, get there before 9pm on a weekday and you'll feel like you've discovered something special.
