There are many aspects to this wine farm, apart from the most delicious wines. Wine tasting, the manor house (museum), restaurant, cafe and wine making tours. What I enjoyed most was Le Pique-Nique and that will be my review.
During the summer months the Le Pique-Nique area is open to provide a lovely setting for pre-packed picnics served in wicker baskets that you order from the farm, usually in advance, if you are lucky they can be obtained on the day. Tables and chairs are set out under the fragrant pine trees in colourful table ware and not encroaching on each other. Vast areas consisting of lovely green lawns are available for games and impromptu footie matches or some such. For the lazy ones, cough cough !! laze around on a blanket for a relaxed sunbaked summer afternoon. Baskets contain pâtés, French bread, cold meats, salads and cheese and biscuits, leave some space for the dessert and coffee that are served from the central gazebo. Do NOT forget the wine to accompany the picnic and also have a roam around the estate taking in the wonderful gardens and tranquil settings and Cape Dutch buildings preserved as they were n the 1700’s. End the day with a wander into the the gift store for a few bits to take home.
