I would give it a 5, except for the location, which is bit outside where you want to be. For some, that might be a plus. It’s quiet. Also, I didn’t explore the immediate area in depth, so I might be wrong.

As a hotel, it’s definitely a unique experience. It’s a converted water tower, and the theme is carried throughout (including piped in sounds of water trickling while you wait for the elevator. Those with weak bladders, take heed!)

I visited just after it opened, and there was still some controversy about the use to which the historic tower, which is visible from many parts of the city, had been put. Which meant a Polizei van parked permanently in front of the entrance. This, however, was August 2007.

Given the building, don’t expect a large room, and plan to get a little dizzy while you get there. It is a round water tower, after all, and there’s only so much you can do with that.

I ate on the outdoor terrace, overlooking the park, and had two great meals. The indoor bar was funky, but nice, and, overall, I think I’ve forgotten some of my memories of the growing pains the staff were going through and have upped the rating I probably gave it on the site I booked it through.

As a unique place to stay, I’d check it out. Just realize you will be about 15-30 minutes from the center, depending on your mode of transport.
