Dieppe is a seaside nice resort, only 4 hours away from New Haven by ferry (Transmanche Ferries).
The crossing only costs £30 per person so it's very affordable. Dieppe's hotels and restaurants are quite cheap.
Their is a big market every Saturday morning.
The tour I recommend is the following: Start from the old town centre (Grande Rue) and go to the castle (Chemin de la Citadelle). On top, you can see a panoramic view of Dieppe.
Then go down and walk along the beach. Follow a street called Quai Henry IV (where the old port is), cross the two bridges and then follow the street called (Quay de la Marne). There there is a small street going up that takes you to the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours (on top of the cliff) dedicated to the sailers who died while at sea. From the Chapel, you can see a view of the old port.
A must see !
